Fifth model Summicron with hood 12585, pointed right below the sun at around 1500hrs on a February afternoon. Just to see, ya know?

Neopan 400.

Same rig, but shot on Neopan 1600.

This really makes me want an M camera...JUST for the Summicron. Considering that it would be cheaper to actually get an M3 + M Summicron than a screwmount rigid 'cron. ;)

That's exactly why I got into a CL. Wanted a little bitty camera that could take modern Leitz glass. Make it from an Altoids tin, I don't care; just let me use these lenses.

Knee-jerk review: So far, if my two test rolls are anything to go by, I find the 50mm Summicron-M to be a lot gentler than my comparatively relentless 40mm Summicron-C.

I like the crunchy brutal aesthetic of the 40's pictures more, but this 50 is extremely well-mannered, and has an angle of view more like my brain's. The 40's out-of-focus areas are superb, but the 50's bokeh is just... whoosh.

Guess I'll have to keep both.

"Ooooh...I like that. A lot."

Thank you, ma'am.

I haven't put my 50 cron through those tests yet. However, thus far, the best flare resistant lens I have, is the CV 15mm heliar. Here it is straight into the sun:

Acid test for any lens. I see you got the nifty rays but no veiling glare--can't ask for
more. I really like the light smushies in the headlight shot.

Flood lights! MP and 35/2 pre asph. Kodak 3200 shot at 1600.
This is my first attempt at scanning so please be nice!

Slam into the sun? "Sundogs" by Leica Digilux2. :) :) Nothing wrong with Leica zoom glass either....

The 21mm Elmarit-M non-ASPH straight into the sun (on an Epson RD-1) yesterday didn't work so well. Ugly blob of flare. :(

I feel so stupid- how on earth do you guys manage to get the pictures in the messages as opposed to thumbnail ????

Actually, I am just the opposite. How do you do the thumbnail? :)

To get the picture in the message, I use a photo hosting service and paste the IMG tag of the photo after uploading it to the service in the message.

Private message me and I'll let you know which free photo hosting service I use.

Add open bracket to beginning and closed bracket to the end and IMG tag that will work will look something like this:

I guess you can see which photo hosting service I use from that.

I tried like you show, to link from the gallery here, but that did not work, so I'll try it your way, thanks. The thumbnail is straightforward, you go through the "go advanced" and "manage attachments" buttons in the reply module.

maybe these examples confirm more than anything else that flare reduction is quite easy to accomplish with modern lenses.... It shouldn't be impressive(rather expected) that a $1000+ lens is not susceptible to flare..

Well, I've owned a lot of cheap, sub-par, old-school glass. This Summicron is the first world-class, modern, multi-coated lens I've ever owned or used outdoors, so yeah, I'm impressed.
