50mm Summicron-M: Straight into the sun...

This really makes me want an M camera...JUST for the Summicron. Considering that it would be cheaper to actually get an M3 + M Summicron than a screwmount rigid 'cron. 😉

That's exactly why I got into a CL. Wanted a little bitty camera that could take modern Leitz glass. Make it from an Altoids tin, I don't care; just let me use these lenses.

Knee-jerk review: So far, if my two test rolls are anything to go by, I find the 50mm Summicron-M to be a lot gentler than my comparatively relentless 40mm Summicron-C.

I like the crunchy brutal aesthetic of the 40's pictures more, but this 50 is extremely well-mannered, and has an angle of view more like my brain's. The 40's out-of-focus areas are superb, but the 50's bokeh is just... whoosh.

Guess I'll have to keep both.

I haven't put my 50 cron through those tests yet. However, thus far, the best flare resistant lens I have, is the CV 15mm heliar. Here it is straight into the sun:

The 21mm Elmarit-M non-ASPH straight into the sun (on an Epson RD-1) yesterday didn't work so well. Ugly blob of flare. 🙁

I feel so stupid- how on earth do you guys manage to get the pictures in the messages as opposed to thumbnail ???? 😕 😕

Actually, I am just the opposite. How do you do the thumbnail? 🙂

To get the picture in the message, I use a photo hosting service and paste the IMG tag of the photo after uploading it to the service in the message.

Add open bracket to beginning and closed bracket to the end and IMG tag that will work will look something like this:

maybe these examples confirm more than anything else that flare reduction is quite easy to accomplish with modern lenses.... It shouldn't be impressive(rather expected) that a $1000+ lens is not susceptible to flare..

Well, I've owned a lot of cheap, sub-par, old-school glass. This Summicron is the first world-class, modern, multi-coated lens I've ever owned or used outdoors, so yeah, I'm impressed.
