70mm Film FUN up ahead

Very Nice! I assume those RB 70mm backs take regular 70mm Kodak cartridges?

And Welcome to the thread! Keep us posted Please

I sent you a PM. Up further on this page I have a photo of the film I currently have available. LMK.

FWIW, I agree about the suction bulb. And I remember pulling non perforated film through one of the backs.

Nice haul, Czmielek. These sell for too much money on evilbay. I have one of these on my Polaroid 600SE, for that you'll need a G-adapter. And yes, they accept the Kodak 70mm cartridges. I have not yet tried non-perforated films in it, but I understand it is possible. If that is the case I will try the Rollei Ortho 25 which is available from Macodirect.

Yes they all take regular kodak/linhof cartridges. What is more they cope with longer than 15 foot long film and they can pull unperforated film. I have about 10 of them. One is already on its way to Wjlapier. Thank you William.

Hi guys!

New to this forum, new to 70mm...
I'm from France, so i'm lucky to buy to Germany with "low" shipping cost.

I've a RZ67, found an adapter "G" for 35€, 116/616 tank (for tests), and now i'm looking for a RB67 70mm back and a HEWES stainless reel (5 meters is 100€ delivered (from England) )

CZMIELEK, you have a MP for your 70mm back! ;)

Dan, you have enough capacity to process all 70mm film for US Air force!:)

Hah Hah! As much as they use it now, probably so!

Yes I can process (three) twelve foot rolls or so 70mm nylon reels at a time in the deep tanks. I'm thinking about DK-50 as I have a big stock of that, with replenisher too. Classic deep tank developer.

36ft--that's a lot of scanning!

Hoo boy... I'm in!

I recently snagged a Hasselblad A70 back (with one Kodak cartridge), a roll of the Rollei 400 film from Germany and have a couple of cartridges on the way from KEH.

Glad I found this thread! (Though I may not have gone ahead with buying the back if I had known what's involved :) ).

Are there any illustrated instructions anywhere on loading the cartridges, and then using them in the A70? It's still unclear to me.

FUN indeed!

Matt,

Just be aware that the Rollie 400 S has an IR sensitivity so you don't fog your film. Pretty much try not to load outside. This film tends to lightpipe.

Also when you do film development testing you'll find that Rollie exaggerated the film speed. Really only about 150 ISO with Diafine which looks really good. Also found that Rodinal looks great at 80 ISO.

400S is not a fast film, but the price is right.

Of course 120 rolls of 400S are ideal as short rolls for testing developers.

Right. Thanks for the tips.

I'm considering loading the 70mm cartridges only partially, less than a 220 roll's worth, so I can use the two-paterson-reels-smushed-together technique to start developing. And/or cutting some of fthe Rollei film into 5" strips and taping them into a 4x5 holder for use with my Intrepid 4x5 camera. We'll see.

Today I've been testing Kodak Surveillance 70mm (I think it's OLD Tri-X!), side by side, with Rollei 70mm. Should be an interesting comparison. Low contrast scene, been raining here. One at ISO 50, one at 100, and one at 200. A wide one stop bracket.

Using the Hasselblad with 30mm Fishy Distagon T* which I need to get out and use finally. :)

I rated the Rollei film at 200ISO and shot it with an RB67, developed in Rodinal and the negs turned out fine to me. I loaded the cassette in the changing bag and estimated over 10 images for the RB. I did have a Hasselblad back but it turned out faulty, so I stuck with the RB. There are instructions somewhere how to load the cassettes and the A70 back--I think in this thread. You'll have to skim or read it to find it. I also used the Patterson reels but found the film is very thin and will bend easily so make sure the reel is very clean and dry and go slow.

Folks,

The Ilford Ultra Large Format campaign for 2019 is open (https://www.ilfordphoto.com/ulf). They offer HP5+ in 70mm perforated 50-foot rolls, but there is a minimum of 15 rolls per order. I have a price query into Hunt's Photo (near Boston).

Is there interest in pooling a purchase here? I'd be willing to place an order, and ship out rolls to folks in the US (and Canada I imagine) at cost.

(Maybe I should start a separate thread?)

On second thought. Looks like it will be too expensive. Freestyle is offering it at $180 per 50' roll (https://www.freestylephoto.biz/1174821-Ilford-HP5+-400-ISO-70mm-x-50-ft.-DPP-EI). I got the Rollei film, from Germany, for just over $115 for a 100' roll.

Never mind.

Right, it works out to the same price as shooting 120 HP5+ almost exactly. But even having to get cassettes, etc, it is a viable option and does give you the awesome 70mm firepower with fresh pushable high speed stock. Kinda like shooting digital, I never have to look at the frame counter (but I do anyway out of habit).

Entirely by coincidence, my favourite local camera dealer has been given all of the film back, six plus capsules, loader and developing reels and tank in unused condition to sell for a customer. I have some photos (to develop) and will find out price when agreed with customer.
