Thanks for the nice comments - Sorry about the lack of variety in subjects - I guess you can see who my usual model is for these lens tests. She's the only family member who will put up with me, and I can bribe her with chocolate :)

Anyway, I really like the lens. It focuses well wide open, the bokeh is attractive, and the colors are neutral. It is much sharper wide open than I expected based on the promotional materials. --rob
 
A portrait session I was supposed to shoot this weekend was postponed when the woman (who plays on one of our local roller derby teams) broke her foot in practice.
But I'm going to take the lens with me Tuesday night as I continue documenting a local theater company. Should give me a lot of opportunity to use it wide open, since the light there pretty much bites.

No need to apologize for the lack of variety. This is exactly how I'd think I would use a 75mm which is for portraiture; and wide open to boot. You did a great job, but now I'm red :mad: as I've gotta find 800 smackers ;).
 
I wonder if this lens will bring down the price of a used 75mm Summicron ASPH. Or even make people forget about the Summicron.

+1 the sharpness, but one thing more: it's a very flattering degree of sharpness, balanced quite nicely for portraiture. More than adequate to display the eyes to advantage while not detailing every pore and freckle. Can't wait to see more!
 
More "fashion-y" shots

More "fashion-y" shots

Was out today and took some more diverse fashion-type shots, both wide open and stopped down a bit. Will be adding them to flickr set (one is up, others to follow).

Have to say I am very impressed with this lens! Solid portrait lens - forgiving and gentle on skin, middle of the road contrast, good colors, actually really nice bokeh. CV has a real winner here! Rob

Are there any photos with the lens shot wide open or is it the M9 that seems to read f2.4 as the aperture on wide open shots (sorry if I missed that somewhere...)?

I also noted that in the Flickr Group (which Tom A had started) that there are, apparently, 87 items posted but only 10 are showing; two from P Lynn Miller and 8 from Rob .... what happened to Tom's images?? (since he's a top contributor with 77) :)

Please note the recorded f-stop EXIF data on the M9 and whatever lens I am using is always incorrect. While some of my posted pics are stopped down a bit, most are wide open. Unfortunately, I don't always remember which ones (and while I can usually tell which are wide open, I am not sure on the aperture on the others). --rob

I doubt it. To what I have seen from thé new CV, the rendering is suite différent to the Cron. The cron is probably sharper wide open, more contrasty for overall a more modern look. Does not mean one is better than the other, it also depends on taste. Also the Cron is smaller, great hood, coded and focuses to 0.7m. So expect Cron prices to stay where they are.

The 75/1.8 is exceeding my expectations in every way.
 
I have tried Tom's 75mm f1.8 for a few frames this weekend. it felt really nice and rather compact / light compared to my old 90 summicron. very smooth too. the shots were taken with his bessa on his film though, so I'll have to wait for him and Tuulikki to get home to Vancouver before I can judge them.

Thanks for the insight Lynn.

I'm on the fence right now.. I've got a great 90mm pre-ASPH cron so I'm not sure the 75 would offer me anything that I could "use" per se. We'll see.
