Helen,
Although I bought mine not too long ago, it was during the credit crisis. I checked KEH yesterday to see if that version 2 sold for $2.3K and I was surprised it was still there. No doubt that your lens is likely to be in better shape and also with a CLA premium I still say you got a good deal.
My friend Gary, a vintage guitar dealer, taught me a valuable lesson. Whenever I griped about the premium on some of the vintage gear I was interested in buying, his response was, "If you can find a better example at a cheaper price- buy it."
For entertainment value check the pricing by dealers on EBAY. They expect buyers to BIN at $4k and even $5k. Also I have monitored pricing since the credit crisis regularly. I believe snob appeal has caused by the release of M9's has caused a major jump in prices. Cris at B&H told me at one time they had five of them. "I should of bought all of them. No one wanted them. Probably could have gotten them all for an average price at or below $1.5K. Then the M8 came out." The same thing is happening, but this time its the M9.
BTW Ju-Ju informed me he got a 1.40X magnifier for his Noctilux. Compared to the price of a Noctilux, IMHO even a 75 Lux at $3K the 75 Lux is a bargain.
I remember one of your shots of a tree in Central Park taken with your 21 Super agulon. Very painterly with extream contrast. Looking forward to seeing the painting you do with this lens, especially with its combination of magnification and close focus that creates a macro like effect.
BTW I find if I stop down two stops I can get the 75 to look like a fifty when I make the adjustment for FOV.

I need some aid even with the 0.85 on the M6.
Is a 1.25X good here or is it too much?

Hi Raid
Hi Raid
I think it's way overkill.
If the image in the RF is not perfectly clear when focusing the long throw of the 75 lux, I think you need to visit a couple of good eye doctors and explain the issue.
This is assuming that you're doing well with the focusing of other lenses successfully on the camera, say 50/2 or 50/1.4s on the same body.
Maybe lend your camera and lux to another RF shooter and see if they are having trouble or not on a roll.
More than about 1 or 2 out of 36 frames out of focus, when you know your lens and camera are aligned properly may indicate the need for an eye checkup.

I can still get very sharp images, but I lust for ease of focusing. My lens comparisons have nearly all very sharp images that often are taken wide open, so it is not my eyes. The 75 Lux is not easy to use wide open. I recently used the Lux at 1/30 in dim light, and the results were sharp when I paid attention to focusing in each image. When I was too laze to refocus between shots, I got unsharp images since my kids move around quickly.

Only a few shots taken tonight. Here's one of Ishmael from Somalia. He's been in the US for 9 years, currently looking for work in warehousing. Reads the Koran daily, and is continually impressed with how people in the US "follow the rules" such as when driving (seriously?!?!). Never ceases to be amazed by the tall buildings.

75 'Lux...
75 'Lux...
here's some with the 75 'Lux & M9:
Jay-Z : Bonnaroo Music Festival 2010
Neon Indian : Pitchfork Music Festival 2010
Dam Funk : Pitchfork Music Festival 2010 (Backstage...)
Robyn : Pitchfork Music Festival 2010
Modest Mouse (Isaac Brock) : Pitchfork Music Festival 2010
One of the best stage lenses out there! The focus throw allows for perscise focusing @ ƒ 1.4. I just wish it wasn't so damn close to the noctilux. It's something I always want to use, but the Noctilux's image is just so much more pleasing!
I wish there was a 90 ƒ 1.0 with the same characteristics as the Noctilux. Vignetting, and Bokeh would be stellar. That way I could use the 90 ƒ 1.0 & Noctilux!
The 75 is the best stage lens there is hands down!

Raid,
I use a 1.40X with a 0.72 VF: 0.72 X1.4= 100.8
A 1.25 with your 0.85 provides 106.25.
The magnifier increases contrast especially under dim lighting, but even under bright lighting it helps a lot. Also seeing your subject at one-to-one is an eye opening experiance.
Amp guy might be right. At 106.25 it might be a bit too much, but I would still try it. BTW I wear glasses, but sometimes I use the 1.40X with a fifty, but it requires scanning to see the framelines.
Moral of the story: If you are going to shoot wide open or under dim light, you will want to use your magnifier if you got one.
Hope this helps. Also Helen tried mine at the last NYC Meet-Up. Ju-Ju who owns a Noctilux just bought a 1.40X for his 0.72 M6.

Helen,
That shot is brutal. Shows texture and detail like MF.
I love how you paint with a lens.

Good thing I already have a couple 50's! I originally purchased the 75lux for the stage as more of a specialty lens, but find it works well all-around and is a useful focal length. Where I would like a 90mm, am finding the 75mm lux, cropped, is a good alternative to the 90 tele-elmarit.
