so i got myself a xe1 (no money to buy and develop film anymore - so i sell slowly my film gear..)
i got 7artisans 25 f1.8 just to have something to shoot with-but i want something more normal - so 35mm f1.2 looks like best solution.. anyone have one? opinions?

I have one and have been amazed with the images I’ve got with it. Also, the build quality surprised me. I don’t know how long Chinese manufacturers can sell at these prices so my advice would be to buy one now. TW

They don't seem to be as optically "perfect" as newer autofocus lenses which is probably why they sell for less. The big names for "modern" lenses can boast higher edge/edge sharpness, CA, etc., all the stuff that people using digital predominantly go for. Someone in a previous post said he even had to calibrate infinity focus so QC might not be up there.

Also...not autofocus, so that's a huge cost savings.

But still good for the price. And probably higher quality as far as film lenses go, the 7artisans lenses seem to compete quite well.

As to the price consider the size of the Chinese market. They probably make a lot of money selling domestically, maybe even more than they do internationally.

I use micro 4/3, so the price of a micro 4/3 lens is similar compared to these, has autofocus, and probably better performance wide open, but I'd still consider one because of the super low maximum aperture for night shooting. But Fuji lenses are super expensive, so maybe a better deal for you.

Also, maybe 7artisans are better than the likes of Meike, which seemed to review as "soft wide open". And only 1.8 aperture mostly for Meike lenses.

Samyang/Rokinon (Korean) seem to review well, they make lenses for Sony E mount. Seem to review well for some of their lenses, and seem to have a niche, but autofocus technology didn't seem to be as good as the name brand counterparts.

I can say for cost savings for Korean lenses, probably due to lower cost of their staff.

These lenses seem well regarded on this forum, where we are mostly coming from film and like manual focus, but on fully digital forums, lenses from the likes of Yongnuo, Meike, etc. are not really taken very seriously.

this was my only lens on X-T1, I loved it! It's also handy to buy a ND filter for it, I still have my ND8 somewhere, hoping they'll make this lens in L-Mount.

Perhaps you should read this review?

The draw is that it is NOT a perfect lens. The exact opposite. But because of that it gives images a unique look.
This is about selecting the correct tool for the job.

I don't think they sell a huge load of these in China - this is still a hobby lens after all. Feels like it's the cost advantage of scale working here - 7A, like Meike and almost every other Chinese makers that are located in the Pearl River Delta, benefit from the enormous size of supply chain in the area. Everything are readily available in huge quantities - glass, helicoid, barrel, which in turn are dirt cheap. There is a reason the majority of these makers started off by simply swapping C-mount lenses (the majority of which being some 25/1.8 and 35/1.7) into shoddy M43 barrels a couple years ago - most of the demand there was originally driven by industrial applications.

35 f1.2 is awesome lens... i sold it to get fuji 35/2 but i somehow miss it now... i think ill have to do some trades and get it back... its so imperfect but also pretty and compact and also speed is needed in Netherlands in autumn and winter...

Came in yesterday, just tested it out. Tiny lens for being a 35 1.2. The paint/engraving marks are definitely no where near the standard of premier manufacturers. Kinda weird font and not exactly bright/contrasty fill.
But mechanically? Focus is super smoooooth. Superb. Aperture ring while click less is also super smooth and perfectly weighted. Really fun using this on my XP3!

Shot @ 1.2, 1/60sec in manual w/ Auto ISO, Classic Negative jpeg, flashlight shining on the sign (I was walking my dogs)

you will see huss its very good drawing-only ugly thing is front bokeh for objects like few meters away if you focus something far and wide open... but thats stupid thing i did anyway-shooting wide open something in distance...
