9/11 10 years after

I've read that they are (were until the walkout anyway) adding one floor per week. I believe this is about the pace at which Starrett Bros. put up the Empire State Building.

Some engineers think the Empire State Building would have not have collapsed onto itself like a house of cards had it been struck by a plane 9/11-style. Dave, you're the architect here: what do you think?

Guess which construction firm is contracted to put up the next claimant to be the tallest building in the world?

The irony in this is beyond words. Or, as an old school chum of mine opined on his FB page, "quite a quandry ... when the Bin Laden Group builds the tallest tower will Al Quada [sic] then have to knock it down?"

This building is supposed to rise to 3280 feet.

I've documented some moments here in the city on 9/11 and other visits when going downtown. It's a very emotional location and just walking by can make you feel a bit put back. You can check some of my frames out on my site here...
9/11/01 along with some shots the morning after Osama Bin Laden was killed here... "The Morning After".

Well, the two buildings were so different using completely different design paradigms that the outcome under similar circumstances would certainly have been different. Haven't read about this though but I suspect it would have been just as horrific even if the "stump of the tree" were left standing somehow.

Interestingly a plane did strike the Empire State building in July 1945. It was a B-25 bomber, and one engine passed right through and landed on a roof down the street. About a dozen were killed, and the fires put out. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-25_Empire_State_Building_crash

OK, back on topic...photography, gentlemen.:)

While I can certainly appreciate the constraints and emotions of New Yorkers regarding the WTC location and events, it is no exaggeration that few people around here even know that any construction is on-going!

As with any significant event, it would be nice to see a few images of the site, 10 years on.... even the (bleh....speeches, etc.). The original photos of 9/11 were from regular people on the street. The same would be appreciated as well.:)

the way I best like to remember the towers...

Hey...tell us more about your documentary!!!:)

Well, it's still in the planning phase.
But it will be an analysis of Americans in the 21st century.
Sort of a who we are where we live thing.
And I'm thinking that this event shaped us as a people.
So I'll be at ground zero on the 10th anniversary to get the project started.

There are other forums for conspiracy theories.

Not this one.

This is a photography forum.

The debate in question has been deleted from this thread.

Dear Dave,

It's an interesting philosophical question. How far should one let things go? Has anyone photographed sites affected by IRA bombs? Should they?

Cheers,

R.
I've taken many shots in and around Manchester Arndale. I'd bet most people wandering around there don't even realise it was bombed by the IRA.

For those who may be interested, there will be a series very soon on Discovery Channel where Steven Spielberg and others are documenting the new construction at "ground zero" or whatever the location is called these days. Looks quite interesting.

Edit: It starts Aug. 25.
