A 50 with same rendering as the Skopar 35/2.5

Hello,
The title's speaking for itself.
I love my Skopar 35/2.5 more and more each day, and I'd like to get the same rendering with a 50. I've had once a Nokton 50/1.5, but I've never felt comfortable with it. (I could reconsider my judgment though).
So any other suggestion?

As for your question, Summicron v3 or M-Hexanon. Gabor has one on sale at the moment.

Also consider the VC 50mm f2.5. LTM so you would need an adapter. This is one of the "unsung" hero's of 50's. Similar in characteristics to the 35f2.5 as to contrast and sharpness.
 
Nice to see you back here, Marc. I had a 35 skopar, sold it, missed it, and bought the pancake version. There have been some recent threads on the CV 50/2.5, w/ some impressive sample photos.
 
i love that the cv50f2.5 is a ltm lens. it gives me a modern 50mm lens option on my llf. it's sort of sad that cv seems to be moving to m-mount.
 
i suspect that the market for LTM lenses is pretty well saturated by now. Most of the VC/Zeiss/Leica lenses now go on to DRF's of one kind or another. It could be that the latest batch of Heliar 50f3.5 and 50f2 in the Nickel finish is the last ones. It is a small market and most of us who still use LTM cameras by now have what we need (or want) in that mount.
What is amazing is that they were made at all. We got the chance to get modern, high performance glass to go onto our "old" Leica's,Canon's and Leotax/Niccas - and it gave us lenses from 12mm to 90mm - including cutting edge optics like the 12,the 15 and the 50f1.5 Nokton.
 
Marc-A., glad to see you again. I do also think that the 50/2.5 is a good equivalent. In fact, I prefer the 50/2.5 over the 35/2.5, at all apertures. And I would say that it is better built. At least it feels as it is better built.

These pictures were taken with a 50/2.5, probably wide open.

I'm just wondering whether it is still on sale. I checked Gandy's website and it seems it's sold out. Any tips to find one new?

PS: Roland, Steve, Pau: I'm back indeed, and I'll try to post from time to time. For a year and a half, my life has been pretty dense. I got my PhD, left Paris and moved to the south of France (Toulouse), and last but not least, I have three kids now (the last one, a girl, is 3 weeks old) ... that's quite a job! This explains why I disappeared, I guess. Glad to feel at home here.
 
Not to stir the pot (and not that web photos prove much,) but have you examined shots with the Hexanon? I love the look of the 50/2.5 posted here, and I could be happy with it. It's just that the Hex is a really, really nice lens.

I guess this means I'll get no invitation to visit in Toulouse. 😀

Marc -- Congrats on your accomplishments during the last year and a half! I hope you'll be posting pix soon of the latest addition to your family (I hope you held on to the summitar for that purpose 🙂). It sounds like you've been real, real busy, but we're glad you're back.
 
The Hex is a little sharper and more contrasty wide open than the CV 50/2.5. It also has the same min. focus as the 35/2.5. And, similarly, very nice bokeh. Which is why I suggested it. Plus, for me, a 50 should be a little faster than the wide angle in the same bag. The difference is hard to see on small web pictures.

Check the M-mount flickr group, Marc. And congrats on the recent family addition ! 🙂

This lense almost always on my m3 and its great for the money, and I can agree with it being similar to the 35/2.5 I owned for a bit. Price is great on them too
 
I'm wonder if Cosina will be reintroducing the discontinued LTM lenses like the 50/2.5 and 50/1.5 in M mount anytime soon. Their current normal focal length lineup already looks well staffed, the 40/1.4 and 50/1.1.

It makes sense from a production point of view to keep the lineup in check. But the wide options are a nice thing to have if one wants to buy new.
 
Congratulations, Marc-A., you've got a busy year, indeed.

By the way, I agree with Roland that the 50/2.5 is rather slow. But it is also
remarkably small.

Hello Marc,
Congratulations on getting your Ph.D.and on having three children.

There are many excellent 50mm lenses to choose from, so move carefully as you pick your lens. I am still favoring the CZJ 5cm 1.5 Sonnar. I obtained one in LTM from Brian,and nowI have an Amedeo adapter which allows me to use a Contax mount 5cm Sonnar on Leica cameras.
