A 50mm Conundrum

So it appears than many here really really like this Planar. I've not really seen the flare in the Summicron in my work- granted I'm usually shooting with the light not against it. But for contrast and resolution is the Planar superior? I'd like to go there if it is. 2024 prints off 35mm??

(and hey, you can't have too many 50's can you)


SO, to spice it up a little (as Monday approaches) What is the BEST 50 in terms of resolution/contrast when the goal is big enlargements? I print 1620 from the latest Summicron and get fine results- if I wanted to go bigger?

Tony I have a 50/2.8 Elmar-M and I'm a big fan of it. A wonderful lens with great sharpness out to the edges. But it is only f2.8 so the pre-ASPH Summilux is my standard 50. If you're looking at a used Elmar-M you need to be careful as some people are rough with collapsibles. In your situation I'd probably be looking at the Planar too. Also I would buy from B&H they are quick shippers when you need it.
 
In very recent memory, like in the last 1-2 weeks, Tony Rose had a Canon 50/1.4. He also should have the Planar and any C/V lenses that fit the search criteria. There are worse lenses to own than a Canon 50/1.4.
 
Anyone have any comments about the Summarit that Memphis mentions? Good buy compared to others in its price range, I suppose mainly CV lenses?

They don't grow on trees. Your schedule is so tight. Good lens. Good price for NIB. I own one ancient and two modern Konica lenses. I won't sell them. Ever.
 
Memphis, I sent you a PM about that lens with some questions, not sure if you got it or not, but there are some questions I had about the condition of the lens itself. I received your email with the samples, and I gotta say that the "look" is pretty awesome.
 
Sorry for the seemingly stupid question, but can you guys give me some info on the Hexanon 50, such as was it made by Konica (I was under the impression some of the Konica lenses were made by Leica), over impressions compared to the rest, etc.? Other than knowing they exist, I hadn't really considered it as I haven't seen one available.

There's a drop-down selection list near the top of the page that is probably set at "sent". Change to "in" or "inbox" I forget which it is.
 
Yeah, I don't know what the problem is Peter, I've looked at both "Sent" and "Inbox" in the drop down menu, the only thing I see is the one message, when I select "Inbox" is shows:

Inbox (0) as in zero messages. Thanks for the info Hexanon, I'll read through that thread.
