A Fed 1 repaint - CLA'd by okvintagecamera

Man threads like yours and this older one from 2006, Leica LTM - Making a Leica Standard clone

Make me want to do something similar to my Zorki 1, after removing my damaged rangefinder assembly. I didn;t realize the rangefinder assembly itself varied on different year Zorkis so I ended up getting a rangefinder that didn't fit my 1956 dated Zorki.

Going to be watching your progress on this.

Wow, I never seen that thread before. Thanks for showing me that one!

After reading that thread I got cringed so hard. That does not look like a ''mod'' to me. Quite poor work done, by only putting some weird tapes and plastic things over the camera. Really sad. I have seen the ''Russian made'' ones before (referring the pics shown on the page 1) They didnt meet my expectations neither. Poor disgusting ''computer font'' engravings, and overall aesthetically poorly made designs. I'm not saying making something nice is cheap. But if it's a camera you are doing for yourself which you will be using for decades... It's worth every single penny. Nobody can explain me that kind of an attitude and work towards cameras.

All of the pictures in this thread as any other FSU "mods" (dumping black glossy paint) are about this:

Yes, I'll try to scale it and make a diagram for the shutter collar also, just like some other newly made parts to include on my blog post so people wouldnt need to buy all these parts to be able to scale them. They can just use the diagrams and pass the R&D budgeting that I had to spend in the future.

An example of a DIY shutter release collar. There are plenty of different designs out there.

Merry Xmas everyone... sorry for the huge delay. Last year was very fast going to me. I ended up moving to another country, started on my masters degree in photography in UK and this camera did also moved from one repairman to other since the first repairman friend of mine didnt had any free time to work on it so it ended waiting for months as parts and not being reassembled etc.

Right now I am more than happy to say that the Fed 1 - Leica 1 copy project is near to an end and I wanted to send you guys on the thread a quick glance on it. I dont want to discuss further about this before I get this on my hands and use it. When I do and the project finishes I will make a separate thread about this specifically so we can have every information about this on one place. It is coming to an end guys...

It will be in my hands in about a month if the mail works fine...

It has very slight issues in regard of the outer shells condition which can be fixed with proper tools. But we'll call it a day and its a version 1 prototype I guess we made it possible. an improved version 2 would be even better but there is no time or money right now for this currently.

I will use this and be happy.

I would like to thank Alin Ciortea for his help putting this all back together.
He has a 7 part video series about this individual unit on his YT channel which is very detailed.
part 7 has some example photos which has been taken with this.
He is a very good camera repairman from Romania. Anyone from EU zone just feel free to work with him he has exceptionally good repair service. Who also offer repaint services with the right fee for cameras such as Zorki 4 etc. (or anything, just ask him to get a quote)
