A little help needed with my Nikon FG please.

I've had the FG for a couple years and it has always been stellar. While
taking a picture yesterday, the shutter worked fine and I thought every-
thing was ok but when I looked in the VF it was black- nothing there!
The camera is essentially dead. I put in a fresh set of batteries and still
nothing. What can I do? My Nikon FA has on the bottom of the camera
a small hole that "unlocks" the shutter but the FG doesn't have it. TIA
for all suggestions. The mirror stayed up also.

Try putting the camera on B, or M90. That should wake it up. Sometimes you have to jiggle the speed settings from P and Auto to some of the other manual speeds, but usually M90 or B, press the shutter, should wake up.
