I have the un-goggled M3 version (which I filed down to bring up the 35mm lines), from 1954 if I'm not mistaken. I use it on my M2s and M4 and on my MDa with a shoe-mount finder.
I have been shooting it almost exclusively during the last week and will keep doing so for another couple of rolls.
here's some summaron love, and there's more to come.

I thought the un-goggled version was for the M2 ?! Is there another way to tell whether M2 or M3 ?

if it brings up the 50mm lines it's the pre-M2 version, I'd guess

To Light & Love ...
Wonderful Series... someof those shots have a Touch of ''Old World' feel
Love the Boys throwing the Rocks & the way the Light Diffuses... Beautiful
I have a 1959 summaron / 35 2.8 with goggles
Not sure which version
but I took off the back ring of the lens
Now it brings up The 35 Framelines....

Nice shots. I have the un-goggled 2.8 version and love it. The summarons are underrated lenses, for sure.

Threads like this make me want to use my 3.5 Summaron more. It's a fantastic lens but I haven't used it much since I got my UC-Hexanon almost 2 years ago, then sold that and now have a pre-asph 35 'Lux. It's hard to take that lens off the camera even.
But I'll use the Summaron this week for sure now.
Great shots, Simon!

There are lots in my gellery at apertures from f/3.5 to f/22. Mine's the screwmount version but it's the same optically. It's being sent for a cleanout (dust and haze) but I fear, as with many Leica 50s lenses, the coatings have gone bad; it's still superb except for some flare into the light.
Of course, the flare works on some subjects; this could have been shot in Victorian times:

yes, the massive glow/flare looks very cool here.

I really need to get my LTM Summaron 3.5/35 cleaned. Lots of debris between the elements and very stiff focus at the moment. I could probably live with it if it weren't for the focus issue:

[I like this even though I don't care for the lighting at the moment it was taken or the way it was falling]

Brian, what focus issue do you have?

Its simply very stiff. I tried taking the back off to see if I could get at the helical easily but got blocked quickly once the first rear ring was off. I'll have to open it up again - I don't remember what was under it.

Simon–can you post a picture of where you filed to bring up the 35 lines? I don't shoot mine much on my M8 because it brings up the wrong lines, but I might be tempted to file it down... I shot with it for years on my M3 and have always been very happy with the summaron!!!

If you do this and use without goggles, focus will be off significantly.
Doesn't matter for large DOF pictures, of course. Nice pics, Simon.

it's the flange next to the focus tab if you set it at 1m.
