a little story about Canada Post and your goods

Have you called the embassy to ask them to over night you a second document via anything BUT Canadan Post on your dime? Could they ship it to the airport customs/imagrations group at your departure location? It's time to start pulling crazy ideas from anywhere and giving them a try.

Rebook the flight for three days later? Can you change your flight to go to Toronto for a day and pick up replacement papers in person? Could a friend in Toronto pick them up today and over night them to you, again by any other means?

Some airlines have special delivery services for documents where someone drops them off and the hold them for you at airport they fly them too. UPS had such a service for ULTRA critical stuff I used once.

Sorry to hear, do not worry about getting your pound of flesh now, focus on getting the documents and to the gig!

that totally sux: If I remember your posts correctly, you are a working foto professional. Consequently, to me anyway, this is MORE detrimental than a hobbyist like me. I mean, my livelihood and income is not dependent on the losses you have incurred. So you are at more of a disadvantage here: not only losing the gear, but loss of income/reputation from your West African affiliates/supporters. Were'nt you going to have a show or something in Nigeria?

i have been invited there by the African Artists Foundation to exhibit my work and speak at Lagos Photo 2011. after that i am off to the delta to go out on patrol with the NPF for a while. i have a ballistics vest and helmet🙂

i am VERY dependent on the work i do in these places and to screw this up would have cost me dearly. the world i work in is not very tolerant of folks not meeting their obligations.

thanx everyone for the well wishes! it always amazes me how therapeutic this place can be when i need it.

phantomas - i know i have missed you crossing through europe, just too many last minute changes and assignments on the go. i will send a print when i get back!

*if anyone is near London, Ontario, i speak tomorrow at 10am at The University of Western Ontario. i know it's last minute but hey, never know! drop me a line if you need directions.

so, color me the fool.

i arrange for Fedex to pick up package but Canada Post PROMISES me they will pick up the package at no cost, from the Embassy, and deliver it to me overnight to my door at 8am. visa, passport and all other travel documents.

so what happens? they LOSE IT AGAIN!!! as of now, 2 hours prior to my departure, it is missing in action again. nobody knows where it is, the people that promised me it would get to me are 'sorry'?!?!

i am stunned at my stupidness and the complete incompetence of Canada Post.

Keep good notes of times and names, the agreement/contract you signed, their promises, then talk to a lawyer and hope he doesn't tell you that by Canadian law they can't be held liable.

The whole thing sucks. Sorry for your problems. Hope you can find some way to make it work for you.

Just hoping you will get your documents back in the next hour. Shocking, really!

btw, might be worth calling your MP and having them look into it, if you trust your mp of course...

and I'm not one for this kinda stuff but if you don't make the trip, I would seriously extract as much blood as possible from the managers and whomever else effed you over. someone has to have a bonfire lit under their ass yano ?

and most likely ALL calls are recorded so hopefully they can refer to those if need be...yeah, I know...
