Greetings, Peeps!
Just posting a review and showing off another piece of my x100 setup. Yes, as you can tell, I'm excited, haha. And yes, I'll stop shooting pictures of my gear and get outside and shot with it, haha! I just wanted to share.
My New Cord Strap
So after getting my x100 and using for a bit, I was disappointed with the OEM strap. What I didn't like was that it was too short, didn't feel nice on my neck and was grippy on one side. So I went in search of a strap that was long enough to keep the x100 at hip level when I wear the strap across my chest (messenger bag style), was not grippy so I could easily slide the camera from my hip to shooting position quickly and without friction and also be able to wrap the strap around my wrist and use it like a hand strap.
Looking for a strap that fulfilled my needs was harder than I thought it'd be. But fter much research (can't believe I was actually researching something as simple as a strap, haha) I found the Artisan and Artist Silk cord strap and the Street Strap cord strap. I liked the silk A&A strap, but man was that expensive, about $150 bucks! I would rather put that money towards lenses for my DSLRs. So I decided on pulling the trigger on the Street Strap cord strap at $69 bucks. Still very pricey but the best deal. But right before I was going to order, I found the strap maker, Lance Camera Straps, that had a similar product but for $38 bucks. Woohoo! I couldn't find any reviews on this product but I took the plunge. Turned out to be a great package. Below are pics of the strap and my thoughts on it. Enjoy!
Thoughts:
After contacting LanceCameraStraps.com, I got the product in about three days and it came in a nice box. Overall, I couldn't be happier. It does everything that I need it to do. The strap is a perfect length, the material (i think it's polyester) feels surprisingly soft on my neck, it slides nicely across my body when bringing it up from my hip, and looks pretty badass on my x100, haha! I actually like the rubber rings at the ends. I took them off one day to see what it'd look like with an all black strap. But I put them back on after realizing I liked the contrast of the red/orange. Thankfully it came with round steel rings since my few day old x100 began showing wear from the OEM triangle rings! Other forums/posts have said round rings eliminate the wear issue and so far so good (i've been closely monitoring). Overall, I'd highly recommend the strap. The only thing is that I went on their website again and saw they now have an adjustable version. I may try and return my strap for the adjustable version since it seems like a pretty handy feature. You can order different colored rubber ring ends. I picked the red orange. Maybe I should have gotten black on black for a more stealthy look.
I ordered the 48" strap and it came out to be about 49". The length is great!
