A nice surprise

Just the other day, I decided to sell my silver Bessa R. I purchased it for last year's big Europe trip as the "colour body", but no longer use it much. I could use the cash now, and eventually I want an R3a, which would necessitate selling both R bodies.

I tell my wife, and what does she say? "I'll buy it from you." 😱

Serious! She's interested in buying the Bessa R and learning how to use it. If she actually pays me the money for it, she'll feel more compelled to use it, and wants to make it a proper transaction. To be honest, I'm floored! Eighteen months ago, she was barely interested in owning a camera of any kind. And now? A rangefinder! 😀

My girlfriend is still running around with an AE1 and a Mamiya C220 - but I'll bring her over to the darkside eventually. (I just got her a little Rollei 35 - thanks Frank! - as the first baby steps in that direction).

Hah - had a hard enough time convincing her to put up a gallery at photo.net... and if she's logged in here, I can't suprise her with a new camera as well (or hide my own GAS).

Indeed. Since times are a bit tight right now, I agreed to let her make payments. I was of course, willing to be flexible with the payment scheme, but she wouldn't hear it. Cash only, it seems, will be the way!

Nope, never dropped a body as far as I can recall. I have dropped the 21mm twice, which has left it considerably worse for wear, but still useable at least.


I dunno if she's going to sign up here; I don't think she currently has much interest, and I'm not sure I want her to find out how dangerous this place is! 😉 She knows a fan of the site, so maybe if I just change the browser homepage on her laptop, everything will take care of itself.

For lenses, she'll be stuck with my selection: CV 50/1.5, 21/4, and 75/2.5, and that 135 that's hiding in a drawer or cabinet somewhere. If she gets serious, a 35 or even a 28 might make a good addition to the kit for both of us.
