Thanks to an unexpected refund from my student grants, I have a bit of money to play with. And what better to do with it than buy a camera?
I've been shooting only film for about two years now, and as nice as it is, there are some things I'd like to have a digital camera for, like portraiture and taking pictures of my film cameras
It's not a lot of money, I'm going to try to spend under $250, ideally under $200. As such I'll be aiming for several-generations old cameras. I'll be sticking to F-mount as I've got a nikon lens collection going, and quite a bit of them are old, so the more legacy support, the better.
I'm looking at a used D1 on KEH, BGN+ with battery and charger for $189. I understand it's an old camera, and won't be delivering quite what we've come to expect, quality-wise, but it does have it's strong points. In particular it's similarity to the last dSLR I used, which was a Fuji S1, it is a professional-quality, sturdy camera. I don't plan on printing anything, so I don't think resolution will be a problem.
Any other ideas? Things I might not be considering? Deals?

Well-known
I suggest you look at a D70 or a D100 (both 6MP). Both should be achievable within your price. Not sure about legacy lens support. I used to have a D70 and its a good camera capable of producing images that will print to 18x12 inches. The D100 is more solid and pro feeling (based on a short time using a friend's). Also Fuji S2 and possibly S3 in your price. None of the aforementioned will disappoint at your price point. The D1 is less than 3MP IIRC, but as you said if its just for web ..............
Good luck

The S1 I used to use was (in reality) < 2mp, it just upscaled to 6mp. The specifics were never really clear to me. All I know is that it had pretty good dynamic range for a digital camera.
edit: I'll keep an eye on the bay for a D100, that sounds like a good idea...
edit: Well, it seems I'm going to be buying a D100 from someone on another forum for $185, seem like a decent deal?
