Hi,

One of the joys of collecting is knowing what is right and what's wrong. Alas, we do like to play mix and match with cameras and that makes me wonder.

The problem is the shutter button guard on this pre-war FED;-

As you can see it is different from the usual ones and only knurled at the top. To add to the confusion the camera is the odd one out with the 1/1000th second top speed. So is it genuine or home-made or what?

Has anyone any ideas or knowledge of this?

Regards, David

Yep, these came also with bikes .... here's a picture of my FED with original collar...

Here's a picture of a type 1 I found on the web - it has the same collar as mine (not actually mine - I restored it for a fellow member):

but the first ones had collars with a vertical stripe design (they had to look like Leica's):

Hi,

All the others have the full knurling in my heap of old cameras.

Trouble is it's far more difficult than (say) matching up the lens caps; I reason the logos should match on the cap and top plate. It's all good harmless fun...

PS Not only with bikes but the one with the blue "Ford" badge is a bit suspicious.

David, that collar is very similar to the ones I used to make using the ring that holds the valve to the rim on bike wheels. Not sure if I have any left.

Before you start pulling your bike to bits they are not all the same thread!

Little chance of that, my Moultons are just as special/awkward...

Nuts!

Presta valve nuts. Note the variations, crosshatch vs straight. Don't think they would fit your camera David.

Moultons...such riches...

Not really.

When the council ran the local tip there was a rule that nothing scrapped and then sold could be charged at more than 50p. Result I had about 18 of them and slowly did them up and sold them. Still got a few but can't get into the loft above the garage at present to count them...

Regards, David

PS I wouldn't mind a more modern one but look at the price.
