I have no idea what you're talking about. Blaming someone else are your words, not mine. Since when do parents sit by their kids/ teenagers anyway? I'm 60 years old and don't really care what you do. I'm simply advocating for the youngsters, hopefully that doesn't offend too many people.
That very well may be the problem I am talking about. You don't have to sit by a child at all times, but as a parent you better know what they are doing if you want to know anything about them, and build a good relationship with them.
Not a discussion we can really have here to any real result.
That said, you may be misunderstanding me, as I think we would agree a whole lot more than we disagree on this topic.

I think "censorship" is a bit of a red herring. I have seen any number of posts disappear over the last several weeks when the moderators thought that the discussion had gone too far in one direction or another.* This is not the corner of Boston Commons or Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park. It is a moderated forum. I suggest that folks think of it as a very large living room intended to encourage discussion. Now Paul and I may disagree over where the line is for appropriate "sharing" on any number of topics/images. But if I have him over to my place for a beer, I am going to be concerned for his comfort socially and aesthetically. If I want Paul around as an interlocutor, I need to think of his reactions to any given topic. And hopefully that is reciprocal. That is part of what makes a community function. There is more than one way to share with the group that you like to take pictures of folks without clothes. For example, you could add a link to your sig line that says something like "Naked photos here" with a link to your own website? Then you can engage in all the free speech you want and folks who are interested can follow along in a way that is less likely to drive someone with Paul's sensibilities away from the overall discussion.

It's the parents job to teach their children how to live in the world as it is, not attempting to change the world to suit ones own morality, that is likely to be a thankless task

I think that glamour/nudes are fine in the general gallery - but I have a problem with the ones that pop up in a forum devoted to something else. I have the experience of reading about a camera/lens or whatever and the next post has a nude in it, without warning. Not good to have this appear while taking a break during lunch at work on a shared computer! So I agree that some segregation or warning is needed. Then if I can click on it or not, as I see fit.

I have seen some surprisingly hot images in the gallery, but nothing at this point exhibiting a level of "maturity" that my kids couldn't encounter in a book of fine art or photography at their school.
Paul is correct to express concern, but I assume the moderators can act with discretion. One image (which I liked a lot) appeared and disappeared quickly the other day, so some one must have been on duty. ;-)

It would seem that the answer is at hand with the profile content settings and the ability to tag content. Computers are great, aren't they? Not only does this allow people who do not wish to see such content to opt out, it also allows people who enjoy such content to find it quickly and efficiently. Win-win!
We should agree that being a responsible and polite member of RFF means one agrees to tag one's content appropriately and this should be part of the forum rules if it is not already.

Hmm. Nude shots meant to be provocative? You think? Whats wrong with that. As others have said, more censorship is a backwards step and would do nothing to enhance the community.
I can only liken looking at beautiful women like looking at beautiful cars or building. I like beautiful things - its why I enjoy photography so much.
Lets not try and enforce conservative views on a liberal audience, eh? Its not like you have to stare, disapprovingly at the shots, is it? Just move on to the next shot of a dog, or a lamp post or something.

To disagree mildly with my friend Paul, I wouldn't have chosen "taste" for the thread title: it sets up an adversarial relationship between the Pro-Nudes and Anti-Nudes here, where the Pros are against "taste". I don't think that was the intention, but it can make folks defensive.
It's possible to make the gallery "family-friendly", but it's very hard to find out how. In the Gallery, click on the Profile link in the upper right, and then choose to Edit Profile. The top option you will be presented with is "Do you want to block mature content?"
The trouble is, this is the only place I've found where this option can be set, and it's confusingly an aspect of your "profile" that is also apparently editable in other places, but which do not present this option. If you choose the "User CP" link at the top of any page, and choose "Edit Profile" there, you will not see this option presented to you. The Classifieds also present a different "Edit Profile" menu. So really, these should be labelled "Edit Gallery Profile" and "Edit Classifieds Profile", or the User CP "Edit Profile" should contain all the options for everything on the site.

If the post interface had a "mature content" checkbox, such that the post could be collapsed for folks who set their "see mature content" setting to "no thanks", that would be a great addition.

You might be asking too much. If one shoot mostly nude he/she will obviously post as an example of camera/lens the shot he/she have and like. Do you think those photographers should skip posting in those treads? Because even with the warning you would check that image to see what the camera or lens can do, right? And what should be the warning? "Are you ready for this?" 😀
How you would get ready to check on a nude photo in a sum micron tread?
The forum and gallery have their own user profiles. To access the correct Profile you need to go to the gallery and towards the top to the right you will see link to your profile. You will not find this option in the forum User CP.

Paul, with all due respect, what you suggest is censorship. Next thing we'll be discussing permissible skirt length and fabric opacity. I absolutely object to limiting the general gallery to what somebody -- anybody, be it you, or Stephen, or Frank P. -- considers "tasteful."
What's needed, though, is better implementation of the existing filter. As it is, when you upload a photo, the default is that it's not mature content. This should be changed to require a yes/no answer (i.e. no upload without an active yes/no choice).

I have no problem seeing nudes or cheesecake (metaphoric or even edible cheesecake with a graham cracker crust), but I respect that not everyone shares my viewpoint. The gallery has a button that one can click to alert everyone to "adult" content. Would such a button work in the forums? There must be technical reasons why it wouldn't.
People who like to post or view this stuff shouldn't be stymied and people who don't want to see it should not fall upon it unexpectedly. There ought to be a simple, courteous way to accommodate everyone. What's the solution? While we all ponder that, I'll be pondering this (food porn).

Right, but I think it should be more obvious that there are multiple profiles for each user on the site, according to each section. Right now, that's not obvious at all. Everything just reads "Profile" or "Edit Profile", and really, I think most folks would assume that you have one of them.
