A second lens for my CLE

Hi all,
I wish you all a Merry X-mas and a very happy New Year!
I have not used my 'new' CLE much yet, in fact I just have shot one roll of color film until now, which the local photo shop almost ruined in his minilab! There are reddish vertical streaks over much of the film, seemingly coming out of the film perforations. Not much to tax the 40mm lens on, but sharpness looks promising. Already I am thinking of getting a 28mm lens or something similar. Since the almost always spotted M-Rokkor 28mm lens is still rather expensive I thought about getting a brand new Voigtlander M-mount lens, for example the 25/4P Color-Skopar, which I intend to use without an extra viewfinder. Am I wrong in thinking that this lens will not cover too much more than what the CLE's finder shows? Thanks in advance for your thoughts & sharing your experiences.

Just get the CV 28/3.5. One of the best CV lenses (optically and mechanically) and a perfect fit. Half stop faster than the 25 as well.

Let me second Roland's suggestion for the CV 28mm f3.5. Yes it is one of the best CV lenses made. And, the very small size pairs it well with a CLE.

My CLE two lens kit is a 40mm Summicron and a CV 28mm f3.5.

Echo suggestions for the 28 f/3.5 Skopar; I've had one of these jewels and regret selling it. Some comfort though to use a 28 f/2 Summicron on the CLE instead. 🙂

Never had an CV 28s but had two different 25 and it is my favorite CV lens. I think you would do fine either way. The new 25 does not need an adapter and it comes without a finder. Roland, is the 28 that much better than the Snap-Shot 25?

Roland and Bob Michaels are right: get the CV 28/3.5. It's terrific w/ both b&w and color, and tiny to boot. I use a similar lens combo on my Bessa T: 40/2 Rokkor-M (CLE) and CV 28/3.5. Fantastic, and v. compact.

I shoot with both the CV 28mm 3.5 and the CV 25mm. Both are excellent lenses to where the question of image quality never enters my mind. They just deliver. I simply pick the lens that has the best field of view for what I think I am going to be shooting.

I must add that I am one of those rare ones here that believe just about all of the modern lenses are more than good enough. I have yet to see a photo that was good or bad because of the lens used. It always comes down to the eye of the photographer.

Indeed... I'ts such a fine platform for the 28mm + 40mm combination. Can't help but feel a certain fondness for the little sweetie! 😀

The 25mm Skopar has a 82° angle of view, compared to 75° for the 28; 7 degrees more across the diagonal. So you can see there's not a huge difference, but using the whole window for 25 makes parallax errors more likely. I have used the CLE+25 in this way, and it works ok, about the same as shooting the 45mm lens on Bronica RF645 without the external viewfinder.

I haven't used the cv 28, but I can confirm Doug's regard for the leica 28 summicron...speed and sharpness to the extreme, but good extreme...a fantastic lens.
The obvious difference being the cost of ownership...if there is an issue go with the cv as that will put you into what is apparently a good lens and what is also one of the CLE's strongpoints...a 28 mm bombshell. Enjoy, and good luck.

One of the CLE's strong points is usually it with a 28mm lens. I would choose a 28 for the camera before a 25. Keep checking out the Rokkor 28's they seem to fluctuate a bit, the last one i saw sold for 180 USD which was less than I have seen the Skopar go for secondhand. Just keep searching and either one will come up at a price you can afford.

When I had to make a choice between 25mm and 28mm, I eventually decided for a CV 28mm Ultron f/2.0. Great super-sharp lens, even though it blocks the viewfinder a bit with or without hood. If you don't need a very fast lens, VC 3.5 is certainly more convenient.

Can someone please post a photo (or link to a photo) of a 28mm Summicron mounted on a CLE ?

Keen to see how this setup looks.
