I hate sitting on a "problem" too. I have two Minolta SRTs that need some work and it kills me. I don't ever see using them again, but why have them (other than they are the two cameras my father bought for me to learn photography with) if they are not in good repair. It would be worst if they were users and something happened, like your P.

But no, the chronicle is being followed. We want pictures of your little victory dance when the postman delivers it back to you.
 
just got the shortest email on record, i think.

but the camera has hit the jersey shore and an estimate has been provided.

no other info, so i assume it's all fixable including the lens.
and it won't break the bank or warrant the need to just buy another body.

apparently a written estimate is being sent by snail mail - hopefully with more info provided.

I just stumbled upon this thread and just picturing the sight and sound in my head made my gut do a flip. My dad sat me down and gave me the talk about how to keep my prized camera from hitting the deck. Never got the birds and bees talk from him but camera handling made the list.

He warned me that before 35mm cams leave the factory, they're trained to land on the film door when you drop 'em so the light seal will be ruined forever. He also told me to never set my camera on the edge of a table with the strap hanging down off the side and always put your cameras on the floor of your car while you drive because that's where they're going to end up the first time you slam on your brakes to avoid rear-ending the a-hole in front of you.

My dad only had to tell me all this stuff once but I remember telling a particular roommate this stuff about three times as he got into photography. I was constantly finding his AE-1 teetering on the edge of the counter tops and coffee tables with the strap dangling down the side. Fool!

I totally don't trust this old, thin, leather strap on my newly acquired Canon 7. That thing's just waiting to snap and make me cry like baby. And whoever it was on this thread that spoke out against those straps with the interchangeable clips in 'em was so right! What is that about? I'm so afraid of one of those things getting bumped wrong and coming undone. I've gotta get that thing off my AE-1!

As I recall they have a standard quote in the estimate for the time which is something like "we will fix it in 4 weeks". I got my Canonet back from them 8 days after I mailed the check. Joe, do not expect that kind of speed up to Canada, if you keep thinking in terms of a month you may be happily surprised...

Essex did a bang up job on the Canonet I sent them in terrible condition. I only bought the camera because it had a UV filter on the lens it's whole life and the lens was absolutely pristine. Now I've seen my first pics from the cam and I'm just really delighted. Essex do pretty good work! 🙂
