Canon LTM a sickening thud...

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
I couldn't help saying an expletive when I read your post. Reminded me when I dropped my 2-day new old Summicron... And I thought there was going to be a happy end to it...

You'll see, Joe, the camera will be fixed and you'll get it back looking even better!

Keep a stiff upper lip, ole chap! :) After all, thank goodness, you still have another P.

Don't you?

AAAARRRGHHH ! That hurts, really bad, I know. Once I had it with a 3 weeks old TLR.......
Hope they can repair it ! If not the only thing to heal your wounded soul is to buy something new, which is better than then the old stuff, no matter what the price will be...
A nice opportunity and a nice excuse for buying something you cannot afford .. :)))
Wishing a fast and complete recovery,
Bertram

yes francisco, thankfully i have the second p to use. and the 7 as well.

the damaged p will need a rf adjustment. it still seems to work well. the shutter fires and sounds about right and the body now has a bit more character.
i will have a full cla done when i send it off so it may well be better than before.

Well, Joe, at least you won't be like a widower. There's another little friend to spend some time with... :D

It's good to find the silver lining on situations like this one. Glad, you're an expert at this kind of searches, Joe!

Add me to the list of members who send their condolences, Joe. I get an uneasy feeling just thinking about it! I hope the repair is quick and not too costly.

Joe! My sympathies, man! I hate that sound. All the worst that it happened to your fav P. Good luck on getting it repaired and working again.

I hate that sound. I have had old leather straps give way without notice and have had a Retina IIIc do the same thing. Got rid of most leather straps after that, except ones that pass my pull test.

They can fix it; they can fix almost anything except may be severe water damage.

Use the Canonator. If you dropped it onto the sidewalk it would break the concrete.

I am sorry to hear bad news Joe:( , but this little guy (on the picture) is obviously looking at you...and
not only suffering pains in his neck...as somebody suggested...

My DIY wriststrap was made after I've seen ridiculously high prices for some shitty neckstraps  .
And then, I just "confiscated" some parts from my mountain climbing equipment. And, lo and behold !
I got "Noosestrap" for 0$ :p

It could withstand pulling force of 15kN ~ 1500 Kg :D

That's more than overkill, that's even more than overuberoverkill for any camera ... ;) :D
But it suits my rather big hands nicely, and expensive, it was not !

Hopefully your favourite P will soon be repaired ! :)

I once wanted to swing my Nikon F around my shoulder and for some strange reason it flew up - and down again. Onto an asphalt road, right on its top. The prism casing was bent and had a ding in its top, but the prism glass was undamaged and the meter still worked. I was real lucky not to have it land on its lens - a beautiful 55/2.8 micro.

Joe,
Sorry to hear about your camera hitting the ground...I too have had this happen to me. I had the original leather strap on my Olympus 35-s when it decided to break. I had the bottom half of the case on the camera so this helped soften the blow. No damage to the camera but it did get my heart rate going.
I now use the Domke camera strap without the release clips on them. My biggest fear is the clips somehow coming undone.
I was at the camera show yesterday, in Pasadena, CA and while kneeling down and looking in a box I heard the sound of a camera hitting the ground. The man standing next to me bent down to pick up his camera off the floor. The old and original LEATHER camera strap had broken. Lucky for him and the camera, it was in it's case, top and bottom, and it hit a wooden floor.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE look at your straps...make sure they are safe...let's not hear about this again...I can still hear that thud...make it go away!!

bad news!

gerry at kindermann doesn't think he can help as he has no access to canon parts and he's thinking it sounds like parts may be required.

oh oh...

That's bad luck, Joe. :(

Adorama has one E+ canon P for 324 $. (www.adorama.com) This price seems reasonable enough, at least for Europe, from where I am coming from. Your favourite P could be donor of spare parts in case
of another unlucky accident..., or as Forrest Gump said: "Shit happens..."

Grading by Adorama:

Grades
Note: Gradings are for used items only, all collectibles are rated accordingly.
N = New Comes complete as packed by manufacturer with warranty except where noted.
D = Demo Demonstration condition almost like new, might show very light use.
E+=Excellent + Very clean
E = Excellent Shows normal wear, might have minor scratches, glass clean.
E - = Excellent - Average wear, may have small marks but no brassing
V = Very Good Shows heavier wear, works mechanically fine
G = Good Shows extra heavy use wear, glass might have scratches, usable

F = Fair Beaten up, sold as is

Who is the Canon specialist that has been mentioned a few times here? Focal Point?

How about Mark Hama in Georgia, Karen Nakamaura (sp?) had a Canon RF repaired by him.

DAG has a huge parts inventory.

many thanks rover, your energy & efforts are much appreciated.
i'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and kinda down. my whole photography renaissance, my new enthusiam for shooting has been dealt a small blow.
a part of me wants to run out and buy 6 more canon p cameras and hoard them away.
of course my budget will not allow me to do that.

i'm gonna take a few days and then figure out the what, who, where etc. of this repair.
