I hesitate to mention it, really, since I can live with it. But, since you ask, when I rewind and remove a cassette from my M6 Classic, the film counter seems to back up a little too far.

I think the counter should be at minus two before loading a new roll. Then, two winds and you're at zero. Another wind and you're at one, ready to shoot frame #1.

Well, mine is at about minus four to begin with. So, when the counter shows 36 that's it — no more frames and I've actually run off 38 frames.

As I said, no big thing, but I wonder if it could be corrected easily. Maybe a light tap with a hammer?

(Just kidding.)

a small problem like that should be inexpensive to repair. since it will be away for a little while, you might as well get a black leica dot and the blank m6ttl shutter release button installed. ooh, flare fix and frameline removal if desired. what else...:D oh, the one steel gear in the advance mechanism can be replaced for $30.

What a coincidence: just before your post, I loaded my M6 and took 2 pictures. The counter is indicating minus one now, that is after winding for shot #3.
So now you have a reference.. Would my M6 start at minus 3, then?

Hi,
One starts at -2 and the other one starts at -3.
Never noticed until you mentioned it. I just load and waste two frames.

Can you just "dry fire" your cameras the required number of times to get them to the (-2) spot, load them and shoot them until they read "0" or "1" which ever you prefer? Would that work?

Tom

Erik, I'm sure you are correct! I don't own an M6, hope to someday in the not to distant future. I was just thinking that with the camera opened for loading that it could be dry fired until the counter was in the right place, then loaded, and then fired the required times to get the counter to the right place. Would that not work?

Regards,
Tom

M6 bashing is a little bit like people bashing the M8. I think people gets tired of it after a while.
It's a bit like hearing someone say over and over again that Château Mouton Rothschild 1985 is absolutely undrinkable vinegar because 1986 is a bit better.

And anyway it's hard to take a person's M6 opinion seriously when said person doesn't appreciate the M5! (And for this later statements here's the obligatory smiley: :))

No, the film counter doesn't advance until after you've put the bottom back on.

I suppose to be absolutely right on the money so to speak then a person would need to get the camera fixed properly!

Tom
