A Toast to Life - I almost died last week

Returned an M5 to Sherry on Monday of last week, had a heart attack on Wednesday and stents placed in the heart on Thursday. Life makes you appreciate it and as soon as you ignore it, it will reach up and slap you in the head. And I get to go back in five weeks to do another angioplasty. This is a call for a MAJOR lifestyle change.

Stephen, thanks for sharing the story of your close call with death, and the view to a brighter future.

I had a less harrowing ordeal - casually went to Emergency Department thinking sort out some difficulty - next moment rushed in on a drip with severe kidney Infection which I was informed could have finished me at 69 . It seemed so minor ...given my gender stuff , I put off anything about guy stuff-prostrate etc and was previously hurriedly checked for cancer , after 3 weeks , I was finally cleared . Scary .

Best wishes for your recovery .

I'm glad you're still with us, also. Wishing you the best as you move forward.

Stephen, so glad to hear you are well. Life is fragile, very fragile and too often bogged down with nonsense. Glad you are well.

I love Keith's comment "congrats on cheating the Grim Reaper!" No need to explain why you posted. Photographers are human too! :)) (Well, at least some!)

Well, congratualtions that it turned out lucky for you.
Sometimes a little reminder is a good to appreciate the value things usually taken for granted and set the priorities straight. Enjoy life!

54 and still have mine, but my daughter's burst during a solo training flight with the USAF a couple of years ago. Quite scary.

Congratulations with the results and your good decision to go see a doctor in time.

Congrats, Stephen.

I was 13 years old, back in the early '70s, when my appendix ruptured. Gangrene and peritonitis set in. I was about a half hour from dying. Surgery and 2 weeks in the hospital, at the old Bataan hospital in Albuquerque. My doc was Dr. Goddard, a relative of the famed rocket pioneer, and also involved in the Mercury 7 astronaut health studies.

Anyways, big scar and good story to show for it, I was lucky.

I have walked down that road and something like that certainly puts things in perspective. Good to have luck on your side.

big life events can cause big changes in life...
i encourage you to stick with your new approach to life and living as it is very easy to let it slip to the back of the mind.
my heart attack changed me...for awhile but then old behaviours started to creep back into my life.
it's a constant struggle...

I am so glad that you made it through this Stephen and thanks for sharing this. It's a great reminder that our stay here on this planet is only temporary and we need to make the most of our time here each day. I must admit that I take it for granted too much of the time. I will try harder to remember your story. - jim
