A total putdown...of me!!!!

Yesterday I went to a ribbon cutting of a new business (fishing supplies). They had hired a "Professional Photographer" to shot it. If he was a day over 18 I would be surprised. He had a Canon Rebel Digital with a zoom lens. Anyway he had a serious malfunction of some sort and I offered to step in with my Sony NEX which also had a zoom lens. Now mind you my IQ was leap years ahead of this kid's 5 year old Canon which wasn't even operable. As I pulled out my tiny NEX the business owner said, "Sorry we need a professional not an amateur." Now I have shot photos for real money off and on for over 35 years. I instantly had to remind myself that it is against the law to slug someone in the mouth so I just slinked into a corner and sucked my thumb. But boy was I humiliated. i guess there is a place for DSLR's.😡😡:bang:

yep the guy put the whole thing on hold and waited for a half hour for another photographer, she had ONE ARM!!! I am not making this up. And she was a hell of a good photog. In fact her shooting with one hand (left only) was a marvel to watch. Anyway I practically sucked my thumbnail off as I felt sorry for myself. Wawa.

its good to know this attitude towards dSLR's many people have, it may be useful who knows... but one does not believe the hype personally.

While people like him continue to see DSLR users as pros we'll be ignored whilst taking the really good shots. I went to a local protest march on saturday where there were two pro photogs. The photos that appeared in the local paper weren't as good as mine. I just put mine flickr.

I notice this all the time. If I have my 5DMkII with battery grip and a zoom lens, people are in awe. "Gee, I bet that takes great pictures"

I can have an M8 with a 50/1 and an M7 with 75/1.4 and people either ignore me or ask "why I use those old cameras".

Aint youth wasted on the young?!?! When it comes down to it IQ is really where it's at not size of your camera and lens. You are a much better photographer than this kid will ever know.

Keep in mind that if he was a professional he would have had some sort of backup camera, heck it's a paying gig. Calling for backup and causing the customer to wait for their "Grand Opening". Points for calling a better photographer than he is to cover his butt, but way more points lost for 'tude

I think a part of why he acted that was was because of the fact that he was not able to be "Proffessional" and perform the job he was hired for. I bet he was worried about lossing the jobs and his boss not getting his cut of the pay for the gig.

World is full of young jerks, toss him a nintendo 3D and hope he gets sick from it.

Wish you'd been able to "just tag along" with the kid to shoot your own, and watch the owner's jaw drop when you showed him your pictures !
