Hello RFF friends, I want to upgrade my digital camera equipment and I think Canon 7D is a good body for my lenses, but I if you have used it and you have examples or good/bad comments about Canon 7D I will appreciate it.

I always work with Nikon and thinking about change to digital Canon something in my mind stops me 😛, but Canon 7D looks good and HD video its good too.

Thank you for your help.

Regards.

Nikon, Canon, eh what's the diff in this digital world? If you have the Nikon lenses, stick with Nikon. For me it just comes down to the user interface of the cameras - I find Canons more intuitive than Nikons, but others feel the exact opposite.

I agree about the Canon Interface. It does seem more intuitive. Isreal one thing that I take advantage of with Canon is the ability to mount many makes of Legacy Glass. I use the best of Leica, Contax, Olympus OM, an some Nikons and M42 on my Canons. A simple adapter and you are set. Over the years I tried many and have trimmed it down to the favorites. Af is not important for low light and Portraits... for me so working stopped down in manual focus is no hindrance.

Double Negative what you said is a god option, I am thinking on it too, but I focus on 7d now.

F16sunshine that is a great plus of lenses, I have a lot of FD and now I know with a adapter I can use it on Canon, and I have many others lenses that not fit in my Nikon.... Thank you for remind me the ability of use many kinds of lenses.

Regards.

I'm also in the market for a 7D. I want a 5D Mk II for my own personal work but I need the advanced AF and 8 fps from the 7D for the jobs I'm going to be doing (a lot of sports, etc).

I'm probably going to push the button this week, hockey season is well under way and I am behind.

One thing to keep in mind with FD glass is that the adapter will have a lens of it's own- which could lead to a degradation in image quality.
Other makes, such a M42, Nikon, Leica, etc can make use of a regular (no optics) adapter and focus to infinity...

israel, you'll get more users of the 7D over at fredmiranda.com where there are multiple threads comparing the 7D to various other bodies.

it's a lot of resolution, frame rate, and AF for the money. the wildlife shooters like it a lot. some sportsshooters do too. even over the 1-series in a few cases. that says a lot for the 7D's functionality.

Thank you MCTuomey for link and comments, I am on the page right now, I need to be sure of I want to. 🙂

Trust me, using FD glass on EOS bodies is a waste of time. The ONLY adapter that's worthwhile is the Canon one, and it's both rare and expensive - and only works with some (mostly tele) lenses. Don't count on using FD lenses with your new camera.

Thank you Double Negative for you recommendation and caution, and you are right, I know it, the distortion is very notable, I saw it with a telephoto converter 2x and 3x I bought years ago. I have to mention I want to buy a new camera for work with its lenses. If I can play with many others lens its just a plus. Thank you again.

I'm afraid that has been my experience as well. FD will work on Siny Nex or M4/3 only so far. A glass adapter is never an option IMHO.

Believe me, I wish it weren't so - I've got a bunch of nice FD lenses that I can't use. Ironically, FD lenses work on just about everything but Canon EF bodies! I tried one of the knock-off adapters and even my FD 50mm f/1.2L lens is hopeless. I even tried a 500mm f/8 mirror lens. In the end, the results are just soft and horribly vignetted with every lens I tried. That reminds me, I should sell that adapter...

Ouch! it sounds bad. I´m thinking if the glass adapter need to be Canon or it does not matter.... Well I think the camera I´l buy will just for work lol,

That really worries me is that the camera body I buy does not work what I want to do.

Regards.

Here is my first shot with a (borrowed) Canon 7D with my EF 50mm f/1.4 lens shot wide open:
