Scanning: hairshirt for film worshipers.
I'm sorry but this is just such utter effing rubbish.
What's a hairshirt for me is whenever I need to sort through my thousands upon thousands of unconsidered digital captures; whenever I need to find which of the infinite number of folders and subfolders might possibly contain a half-good digital image.
I actually look forward to scanning - set-up correctly it's a totally painless workflow. My biggest disappointment is when the last image is scanned and I have no backlog to work through.
Anyway, thanks for your constructive and helpful comment on the thread.

This is in epsonscan, the middle slider raises and lowers the midtones. For example .93 lowers them, 1.23 raises them. This number is displayed in the middle box.
I like scanning too, it's like opening presents. A hairshirt is the hard look and blown highlights of digital, I also dislike the way saturation seems to be unrelated to contrast in any way. Slogging through a few hundred pictures I can't convince myself I like the look of and have to try to "fix" and pretend they look right to me is not my plan for this.
