Does anyone make an inexpensive reproduction of the Canon accessory coupler pictured below?

I've never seen one, and I would have been interested. With patience, the real thing can be found, sometimes at a relatively bargain price. It would not be an easy device to reproduce, and would be costly in a small run.

The alternative is simpler... find a nice 7s, one of the best RF shooters ever.

They appear from time to time. I've found one with a brazed stopper added to the shoe for low a price. No beauty but usable. I doubt that even the nicest condition coupler adds any elegance to the 7, BTW...

Buy a cheap & simple potato masher type gun with one of these brackets that attach to the tripod screw - probably cheaper as there is tons on ebay.

And due to the offset from the lens at the side, you'll probably get better results.

That's a good solution for a flash, but doesn't help when trying to attach something like a 50mm VF for use with the 50/0.95. Canon also made a small flash coupler that attaches to the side of the camera, with a shoe at top, but that also doesn't really put the VF at a good position. It's far enough off that for close in portrait shots, the results can be very poor. Unless you're a good improviser, the only real answer with the model 7 is to find one of the couplers.
And, no they aren't an elegant solution... bulky and klutsy looking would be a more apt description. I own one, but have easier alternatives available, for which I'm grateful. It's amazing, in hinsight, that the designers wouldn't appreciate the problems the lack of a shoe could create, on an otherwise capable camera for its time.

There is a small Canon Flash Unit Coupler made for the Canonflex R series cameras that will fit on the side of any of the V and 7 series camera bodies. It has a PC connection in the center of the bayonet mounting flange and an accessory shoe for flash or viewfinders. If you want to use it for flash it is OK but a VF will be slightly of centre. How about buying an old Canon Bulb flash to get the bayonet coupling, and hacking it into an accessory shoe? If I find a cheap flash (when I think of Ebay'ng for it), I'm going to give it a try.

Fabbing the over-the-camera section doesn't seem too daunting but making something to engage the bayonet tabs is beyond my abilities. Is ebay the place to look for the old Canon bulb flash?

I'm sorry, I'm at a loss as to what you are talking about. Is there a name I can type into google/ebay to get a better idea?

That would work fine but are they any cheaper than the clip on accessory shoe?

Thanks for the input everyone.

If anyone is interested, there's a not-so-cheap canon clip-on accessory shoe being auctioned off on ebay right now (no affiliation).

The R Accessory shoe is the cheapest alternative and can be picked up for around $20 +/- but it's ages since I chased one. The Bayonet system on the side of the RF and Flex cameras was unique to Canon. There has never been a cheap copy of that accessory shoe or at least I have never seen one. It was made solely for the Model 7 cameras as Canon "overlooked" an accessory shoe on that model but made it up some four years later with the model 7s camera.

Ebay/Google search would be Canon Flash Unit Coupler .

What do you want to attach to the camera (Model 7), flash or extra wide angle vf's ? Cheers Peter K

Hi everyone,

If you have a 3D printer, I have 2 free models to share for the Canon 7.
The smaller is designed for the center to put an external viewfinder. I use it for 20 mm and 24 mm. All are L39 Russian mount for Rangefinders.
I'm reaching a 28 mm as I have a home between 24 and 35 mm. It may be the length I use for street. The 24 mm may do the job for cheap. It's a Chroma 24 T:11. You can find it for 120/130 $ in USA. Mine had #A 00035. It's sold out, but may be found for less.
Chroma Double Glass lens L39

Someone have it in Paris and sold me for less. I have a lot of Fed 2 and all the lenses for them, and my favorite Canon 7.

I have another Canon 7 I prepare for one of my son birthday. All of them can be mounted on Canon R or Nikon Z5/6 for fun.
I changed to Nikon when the first EOS was available without lenses, but still keep my Canon AE-1. Quite a World tour with it 😁

Fist adapter (small) : Cold shoe for Canon 7 by Fehrix
For the 2nd adapter (look like original), I can't find the link, but I have it on hard disk. I break it too easily. So, may look more than the original, but I prefer the smaller unbreakable one I can have on a pocket.
