Adapter for 43mm x .75 Filters to 43mm x .50 Lenses?

One would think that this is something that could be easily manufactured and something people would buy -- not just for old Nikon RF lenses but for certain old Leica lenses as well. Does anyone have any ideas of who could make such a thing? I think it would be neat.

I obtain all my filter adapters from ebay, they have all been made in China although some have shipped from California vendors. I believe if they have .5mm thread pitch Adapters they will probably be labeled as ‘fine thread’. All the ones I have ordered are the regular .75 filter Thread pitch.

As far as I know, there is no 43mm x .75 to 43mm x .50 adapter out there yet.

You can't make a 43x0.5 to 43x0.75mm adapter. A step-up or down adapter for larger or smaller XXx0.75mm filter, yes.

Have you tried to screw in the 43x0.75mm filter onto the lens? There is a chance it'll go in a few threads. I've had it work but the other way around (smaller pitch into larger).

Yeah, I have done that. It is not ideal and can damage the threads on the lens.

It may be of interest for you to know that the modern B+W filters of 40.5mm and 43mm size have a 0.5 mm thread pitch. It works great on my vintage lenses.

I think Heliopan may also have the right pitch, but I am not sure about that. It's been a while since I bought a Heliopan filter.

None of the Japanese and American filter makers use the 0.5 mm pitch. They are all 0.75 mm pitch.

I just purchased a B+W MRC UV 40.5mm to fit on my Zeiss Biogon 35mm f:2.8 for Contax RF. I usually order from B&H photovideo, but since it was a Saturday, and I was impatient, I used Amazon Prime. The filter actually arrived a few days before the lens. However, once mated, it is a match made in Heaven (Germany).

It's a mess. I have a number of items with 43mm threads: lenses, filters, and hoods. Some have fine threads and some have course threads. Sometimes unmatched threads screw together just fine (pun intended). Really. Usually it is course into fine. Fine into course seldom works as well. In addition to older Walz and Kenko filters, I have a newer Soligor red filter with fine threads. Anyway, by luck I have what Davidde is looking for. It is a Vivitar 43mm SKYLIGHT (1A) filter. It It screws fully, yes fully into both my Nikkor 50/1.4 (fine) and my Yashinon 50/1.8 (course) lenses and any 43/0.75 item will screw into the front of it. I can even remove the glass and have a glassless adapter. Sorry, it's not for sale.
Right now I see two inexpensive solutions. I would have said cheap. It's shorter to type, but it sounds so....cheap). Anyway, first get a filter like mine that works (any color and remove the glass). Or, second remove all but one turn or maybe a little more of the thread on the back of a course thread filter with glass removed. With only one turn left, there are no threads (plural) left to bind up. Good luck!

That's odd -- none of my brand new 43mm b+w filters (uv, orange, etc.) screw on correctly on my 35/1.8 W-Nikkor or 35/2.5 Nikkor. They are close, for sure, but not the same.

I think that most, if not all, 40.5mm filters are all .50 pitch. 43mm filters are not, unfortunately.

I think this is not quite right. The standard thread pitch for ALL 40.5mm filters is still 0.5mm these days - I guess it was never modernized - but the B+W filters sold today in 43mm are with the newer 0.75mm pitch. My B+W filter will fit on my old Nikkors but it doesn't sit quite right. Meanwhile, it attaches very snugly with my 50/1.4 Millennium lens, which has a 0.75mm pitch. I'd be careful about using modern filters, even from B+W, on the thinner pitched lenses. Best to get a period correct filter, or use one as a buffer between the B+W filter and the lens so you don't ruin the threads on the lens.

Well, S.K. Grimes can do a one off adapter for $75. And for 20+, down to around $50. For custom work, this is not bad at all.
