Adapter oddness

Hi all;

My understanding is (was?) that any SM to M adapter would work with the Bessa R bodies because all the adapter did was connect them to the camera and the user has to manually change the active VF frame. Contrasted to the Leica M bodies that require that the adapter trigger the correct frame.

I bought a Canon 35/1.8 for my newly acquired R2. I also bought what was supposed to be a 'universal' SM to M adapter ring. The adapter attaches correctly to the lens and bayonets to the body, but the mark on the lens indicating correct focus point as against the rotating focus ring is at about 10:30 (when looking at it from the front of the camera) AND when focused, it indicates a distance that is farther than my other two VC lenses. Oddly enough, if the focus point indicator was aligned at 12:00, it would match the other lenses.

So. Have I disproved the 'any adapter will work' theory? Or do I just have a bad adapter? 😕

TIA!/ScottGee1

2 out of my 3 lenses have a similar problem but not as much as you. Both are about 2 or 3 millimeters to the right when looking from the top of camera. one of them is my CV 75mm with the CV adapter for 50/75mm. The other is the CV 15mm with a CV adapter for 28/90mm. The only one that is correct is my CV 35/1.7 with a CV adaptor for 28/90mm.

I think the problem is on the lens side, not the adapter. If I switch adapters, I get the same results. My 35 is always aligned properly and the two others are not. It' has to be the thread on the lens that stops too far or too early.

Follow up . . .

Turns out it WAS the adapter.

I managed to locate another one locally and guess what; the lens now lines up correctly and seems to focus accurately.

Now I can use the lens and find out if I like it. Woo-hoo!

Unfortunately, it's totally anonymous - no markings at all. And the seller is clueless.

I'd be happy to take and post some more detailed pix if that would help . . . 😕
