Hi guys,

Does anyone know if adding slow-speeds to a Leica If is possible? The flash sync is where the slow-speed dial normally is on the III's. I may get a If as part of a trade and was thinking it would be a sweet camera to use with the Voigt 15mm and 25mm - but slow speeds would be nice to have.

Thanks.

Even if it's possible, I wouldn't do that. It will be difficult to find someone to do it, it'll be expensive, and in the end too many cameras have been spoiled by people adding this and that. Just leave the old camera as it is.

If you need slow speeds, you can get an external slow speed timer, such as an Autoknips - there were a lot of different slow speed timers made back when cameras usually didn't support speeds slower than 1/30 or 1/15. They screw into the cable release socket, so with the Leica you may need an adapter collar, too.

The IF is the same camera as the IIIF, sans slow speeds and top deck. I'd check with DAG, Sherry or someone similar and see how much. If they have the parts it probably wouldn't cost that much. It's not a modification, just replacing the missing parts I think. Even the holes are drilled. Of course they will do a CLA also, so it adds up.
