Dear Valued Freestyle Customer,
We have just returned from Cologne, Germany where we attended the world's premiere photographic imaging fair, Photokina 2012. Not only did we view some of the photographic industry's newest innovations but we also found it to be a great opportunity to meet all of our current and future manufacturing partners and to reiterate the importance of traditional technologies along with the new.
Here are some highlights of the show to let you know about some new products and exciting updates.
Unfortunately, Fotokemika has officially stopped production of all Efke film and Emaks and Varycon papers due to failed machinery. We are currently in research and development with Foma to continue production of our Arista Silver Artist Series papers utilizing Fomabrom and Fomatone emulsions on 100% cotton fine art paper base. But until then, we have the original Fotokemika produced paper coated with Fotokemika Varycon variable contrast black and white emulsion available in limited sizes and quantities in BFK Rives Grey, BFK Rives Cream and Platine White.
As for new products, Jobo processors are returning to the United States market and Freestyle is the exclusive distribution partner! Jobo accessories will now be more readily available such as all primary Jobo processing reels, tanks, bottles and most replacement parts except for the circuit boards for older processors. The new processor is called the CPP-3, an updated version of the Jobo CPP-2, with a better circuit board and improved performance features. The CPP-3 will accept all original Jobo accessories. Please contact me if you have an interest in this new processor, as it will help us determine our initial order. It should be available to ship to customers in the United States early 2013.
As we announced in our last newsletter, Freestyle is now the exclusive North American distributor for Tetenal Chemical products which are a perfect match for use with Jobo processors. We sold out of many items on our initial order and have placed a major reorder for both color and black and white chemicals. Tetenal is very excited that so many of you enjoy their products.
Canson and Hahnemuhle have both announced the future availability of some of their most popular digital inkjet papers with 4 deckle edges. This has been a feature customers have been asking for and both companies have spent quite of bit of research and development to make it available. This will finally bring the sterile world of digital printing in to the world of handmade printmaking in terms of look and feel.
Adox also has announced their new Adox Silver Max 100 ISO 35mm B&W film. Freestyle is placing an order for this exciting new film. It can be used as a very high quality negative film exhibiting a 14 contrast zone performance when used with Adox's matched developer. A 12 zone performance can be achieved with most other developers. Adox is currently working on a 5 roll capacity reversal process kit so the film can be developed at home to produce excellent high quality positive slide images.
Also new from Adox is their "Color Implosion" 35mm C-41 standard process color negative film. This new color film is a limited edition product with an unusual color pallet and variable contrast. When shot as a 100 ISO film it is rather muted with color leaning towards blue. When shot as a 400 ISO film it builds contrast and leans towards red. With the off color tones and large grain, prints from this film have a vintage 70's look and feel. No app needed here!
We had a very successful meeting with Awagami, a Japanese company that produces 21 different and unique paper formulations, some of which are handmade and some that are machine-made. All are produced from a Japanese Kozo mulberry root which is a very fast growing tree and is quickly replenished. The entire line is considered eco-friendly. All of these papers have an extraordinary handmade Japanese look and feel. Many papers are in fact handmade with each sheet having its own distinct personality. We feel that this new product is a perfect addition to our selection of digital inkjet paper offerings and will be a boon to those looking for an exclusive handmade paper that can be printed with your inkjet printer. There is nothing else like it on the market.
Freestyle is participating in the reintroduction and expansion of Ilford brand inkjet papers. In addition to the already available Prestige and Premium lines of Photograde RC papers, Ilford has announced future availability of two new fine art 330gsm matte inkjet papers, the Galerie Prestige Gold Cotton Smooth and the Galerie Prestige Gold Cotton Textured. They are also introducing a new paper specifically formulated to render images with the look and feel of a fine art black and white print called Galerie Prestige Gold Mono Silk 270gsm. The full product line will be available in January 2013.
