Advice on buying a G1

Hi, guys!
After trying different cameras the past few years, i found out i like the g series. I bought a G1 w/ 45mm a year ago and i want to upgrade.

My plan was to find a G2 w/28. Then i think i would cover most of my needs. These are hard to find in northern europe, but i now have the possibility of buy another g1.

It's in "near mint". G1 body, strap, case, 21mm,28mm,45mm and the 90mm. Including uv filters and sunscreens. One owner, and everything is supposed to be in order. I'll have to pay about 1100$ for the whole thing.

This is strictly speaking more than i need, but i think this might be a good deal. I know the 21mm is of good value, but what of the rest?

What do you think? Is this kit worth buying..?

Btw. The reason i want a g2 is because of better AF and focus lock in thumb position.

I am one of those few that has owned both a G1 and a G2 body for many years. I use the G1 most of the time while the G2 sits.

I find the 21mm & 28mm Biogons are specatcular lenses for me. If I could only have two ContaxG lenses, I think these are the two I would pick.

The price certainly sounds reasonable to me. But it is all a function of how you photograph. For example, the 90mm Sonar is a great lens optically but it is just not a focal length I use. I have not used mine for years.

Thanks! I think i'll buy the set. It's really fun taking pictures with these cameras. And that's probably the whole point.. I found out the G2 also was a lot heavier, so it may be nice with a backup G1 body.

I'll stick around to learn more about this system. And i'm looking forward to try the 21!

I own a g1 and plannar35, and i also experienced g2 for several weeks. I think it is better AF than g1 truely. But my G1 is good enough to avoid a backup body🙂
I think the set is a very good dealing,it has a nice price. And u could sell the redundant body and lens later.🙂

🙂After reading this helpfull thread, and after additional advice from Bob Michaels I just bought a brand new g1 with 45mm.
This afternoon I am going to devellop the first roll of the usual "Hey I got a new camera" livingroom and garden shots, so we'll wait and see.

A thought that occured to me while using the G1, where's that learning curve? It all seems natural, was that this is the Konica Hexar af with better ergonomics (wheels instead if buttons) On the minus of course the viewfinder, but in daylight I can live with it.

I will see the negs this evening and maybe adjust my statement about the learning curve😉

I loved my G1. A jewel of a camera and the lenses are brilliant.

I moved on to a Hexar RF as the next logical step as it had a much better viewfinder and better/quieter manual focusing.
The build of RF is very similar to the G cameras, in fact I believe they share some of the same components. It also allowed me to start collecting up some M mount lenses.

The dowside was the only thing I could find to match those fantastic G lenses were the Zeiss ZM lenses - and they're not cheap!
