Aftermarket diopters?

Not a diopter exactly, but I did buy a 1.25x magnifier, and it's a great addition for 90mm & 135mm, and etefore seems to be a reputable aftermarket supplier.

In case you want to know about their service, I bought a lens hood from them. They stayed in touch with me and let me know when they received payment and when they shipped the item.

The 1.25 magnifiers were favorably reviewed in a thread in Photo.net some time ago. Especially these non-Leica specimens. I was interested in buying one but then it dawned on me that they're very small, easy to lose or misplace... and just dropped the idea altogether. I did use one, briefly, and loved it, but it was the Leica kind, with a small chain to retain the piece near the body. I guess you could fashion one for the non-Leica magnifiers too...

Have fun shopping! 🙂

I bought a eyepiece correction lens from these guys for my M4-P. I received it in record time, it fit perfectly, it works perfectly, the price was acceptable (especially when you consider the cost of the Leica stuff) and it looks nice.

I will get another for my M2.

Now for a inane question: What does a "magnifier" do for the M series cameras? Will it work in conjunction with correction lens etc.

Excellent reports. I'll give them a try. My M4 is currently wearing a +2, but the M6es have the (correct for me) +1.5 and a replacement for the +2 would be nice.

Well, on my M6 TTL with the .58x viewfinder, it turns it into a .72x viewfinder. This helps when trying to focus my 50mm. But then the 35mm brightlines are no longer visible when using it, so I only use it when I know I'll be shooting my 50mm for a awhile.

I don't know about the 3rd party items, but the Leica correction lens will screw onto the Leica 1.25x magnifier. Yes, you can use both together.

Much Thanks

i recommend the megaperl's 1.35x magnifier. it makes a .58 VF into a .78 VF; as others have stated, it makes focussing a 50 at 1,4 a great deal more precise.

I am nearsighted and prefer not to take my glasses on and off while shooting, but to see sharply through my Leicas means trying to see through somewhere in the middle of my glasses (they're progressive multifocals) which is a pain. So I found that a +1 on the camera lets me use the upper part of my glasses. Evidently Leica considered that some people would use the diopters along with their glasses, because the Leica diopters (at least those made in the last 10 or more years) are rubberized like the eyepiece so they don't scratch glasses. From the pix of the aftermarket diopters on ebay it doesn't look like they are rubberized. Of course if you use them with your naked eye it doesn't matter. As to Mr. Etefore, I bought a [new] Hasselblad lens from him a few years ago for about half the US price but still a chunk of money which I had to wire-transfer to him on faith, and found him honest and ethical all the way.
