Agfa Rondinax 35u

Another Q - my version is missing the little rubber ring that goes on the spindle. It doesn't appear to need this to remain light-tight or anything, I presume it's just to help the crank turn but mine feels good with the screw done up fairly tight. Thoughts?

I have tested the tank with a practice film, and it doesn't seem necessary to cut the leader from the film as instructed. It feeds in really well without doing this - do you guys cut yours ala Rondinax or just feed in the leader?

I follow the old maxim “generous with exposure, parsimonious with development", I would recommend a 15% reduction from manufacturer recommendations for time, but you’ll have to just find out what works for your film/dev/process. Mine has the original washer, never thought about that really (I use Vaseline on the parts to keep it all working quietly). I straight cut the film leader, as in the instructions, only takes a second so never tried it without doing that.

I think I’ll stay with the same times as I use in the Rondinax and see how I get on. As the film is immersed more of the time than in the Rondinax then I assume I might get away with less dev time but I’ll see how 6 mins goes first.

Thanks - and does yours have one spring clip on the central spool or one at each end?

Test went fine - really nice to use. Some drips from the crank probably due to the missing rubber gasket which I have now fixed. I have a couple of scratches and marks because frankly I was a bit drunk and I dropped the negs twice! Lovely little thing, and a clever design.

Welcome to the Rondix club! Such lovely negatives always turn up from it, and I treat the process in a very relaxed way, no hurrying. Mine has the clip only on one side and I think that's how they came. By the way, there is a code on them which will tell you the manufacture date.

Good pix! Glad you're enjoying the Rondix!

Regards dev times: I've long since standardized on HC-110 diluted to 1:49 from the concentrate, and process nearly all films for nine minutes at the rated ASA settings. One exception is Ferrania P30, which wants much more exposure (ASA 25 to 40 vs the rated ASA 80) and about 16 minutes in HC-110 diluted 1:99 from the concentrate. That tames the P30's rather harsh contrast curve.

Given the fluid level in the Rondinax vs the Rondix, and the fact that both are 'continuous agitation' processing systems, I doubt that the film is being coated with fresh developer for any signifiicantly greater time in one vs the other. I've seen no difference between them in use (yes, I have and use both regularly) with respect to development time. I tend to choose the Rondix more frequently simply because its handier and faster in use.

It's a great combo. Best film for flexible exposures, paired with the most classic looking developer.
It’s certainly flexible! Using the LVS I tend to just look at the rough EV outside and use that plus a stop or so. Makes it really easy to keep track of the light and available options.
I shouldn't read these threads. I have a Rondinax which I use sometimes when I feel like a change from my Patterson but I had never heard of the Rondix till yesterday; now there is one on the way!

Welcome to the club!! It’s a really cool gadget. Let us know how you get on.
