Does anyone use Agfapan APX400? How does it compare with things like Tri-X and HP5?

It's a bit grainy compared to both TriX and HP5 when shot @ ISO 400 (I have had it developed it in DDX, RHS, D76, Rodinal). Many people say it behaves more like an ISO 200 film and that's my experience too.

I shot 40 rolls lately. The majority of my images in these threads and in my gallery are done with this film.

Interesting, thanks. I noticed that Retro have it quite cheap and wondered if it was worth trying - I might try some at ISO 200 (in HC-110 probably, but I've got some Rodinal too)It's a bit grainy compared to both TriX and HP5 when shot @ ISO 400 (I have had it developed it in DDX, RHS, D76, Rodinal). Yes, definitely iso 400 and develop as indicated. I see no point in overexposing 1 stop and none of my negatives are thin. Iso 400 is perfectly fine with D76 and HC110!

Thanks for pointing out the source, great price from Retro. APX 400 is definitely worth a try anyway. My preference is for APX 100, I see they have a very appealing price for it too, I may put an order for a brick.

APX100 is one of the very best B&W films of all times and a personal favorite, as opposed to APX400 which is only average.

My M5s need red dots!
I don't find it terribly grainy... and I have pushed it all the way to 1600 without losing contrast and punch. In other words, I like it.

Thanks for all the opinions folks - I'm now awaiting an order from Retro (I'm trying some 400 first, because that's the speed I usually use - I'll try some 100 later).
