Al Kaplan has passed away :(

I am sorry to see you leave this world, Al, and I wish you a peaceful after life if you believe in one. Take care my friend. I shared with you my sadness and my fears, and you were listening.

May peace be upon you.

I only knew Al from his presence in RFF and from his blog. I'll remember him and his pictures, specially the ones from old times. It is difficult to say something in a foreign language specially when you are shocked and feel sad. My wife and me will pray for him.
I lost a friend, even if leaving on the other side of the ocean.

Funny how the web works.
I only knew Al from his posts and for the fact he was generous enough to take the time and answer some PMs and give serious advices, but it seems to have been enough for me to feel that knot in my throat today in reading this.
RIP, Al.
I hope Freestyle are delivering to heaven.

RIP, Al.

A truly talented photographer but, more importantly I think, a man of great empathy and love.
I'm not alone in saying, "I'll miss you, Al."

I will have to load up some B&W film, attach a 15mm lens to my camera and take a few self-portraits, in homage to Al.

I'm chiming in again to mention that Al was a tremendous amount of information on just about any subject and he would give it, if asked, and sometimes even if not asked. But he talked to you personally and not condescending at all. Great Guy! Still can't believe the news.

Althoguh I didn't know him I feel the public mood here and I'm shocked. I will check his posts here and his blog now. My condolences to his friends and family.

Many of us enjoyed Al's virtual company. Week or two ago he shared darkroom experience in printing thread - and now he is place where is no need to cover developer tray.
Al has eternally fresh developer from now. Thank you and rest in peace.

Damn.

My deepest condolences to his family.

I felt like I "knew" him just a wee bit from the mere fact that he's been a mainstay online since I re-entered photography back in the late 90's.

May he rest in peace.

Sincerely,
Dave

I posted the following in Al's blog:
Jonathan & family: I am so sorry to hear of Al's passing. On the Rangefinder Forum, Al was well known as a gentleman with a wealth of photographic experience who was always willing to help others. And as a local character with a unique perspective and sense of humor. He was the kind of guy who brought a smile to each of us whenever we thought of him. We will miss him, and our thoughts are with you.

My sympathy to his family and friends. He will be missed
I bought a parts Minolta autocord from him with the commom break off focus knobe, I asked my friend made replacement from whole block of metal, it is wanderful job (parts quote from shop for $600 a piece, but my friend did not charge me that high). I have to restore this minolta autocord next year, my new year to do list.
