My sincere condolences. Al was a great person. His character and sense of humour are unforgettable.

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Al I did get to enjoy his perspective and participation here and on his blog. Genuine "individuals" are few and far between but Al seemingly definitely qualified.

My sincere condolences to Al's family and friends alike. Take comfort in knowing that Al and his spirit touched many of us who may have never even met him and lived thousands of miles away, yet in our own way felt connected to him.

I've never met Al, but was hoping to get down to Florida this winter to meet up for coffee and some talk. I'm sorry that I'm going to miss that chance now. He sent me some enlarger parts last year, and never asked for a penny, even for the shipping. But that doesn't come close to how much he has helped me with his input on the forum. I've always felt that he's the kind of guy that work stop for just anybody just to spend some time to talk. He loved people.

I'll miss you, Al.

This is very sad news. I have read Al's internet postings for a long time on photo.net and here, and have always admired his knowledge, his sense of humor, and the really civil and friendly way he related to people in a cyberworld that often lacks such grace.

I derive great consolation from the afternoon Al and I spent together a few months ago. I know that Al did not slow down and coast to a stop. Instead, Al lived life at 90 miles an hour until it came to an abrupt end. Dying sucks, but Al went the best way.

I said that Al went out living life at 90 miles an hour. Here is another photo of Al from the afternoon we spent together. We met for lunch and Al immediately connected with Anna who was sitting at the next table. I though they were old friends. It turns out Al is just fast. Anna not only looked hot and wanted some modeling portfolio shots but finally told us that her husband had just left her to pursue a relationship with a male. You can connect the dots.

It is funny how you can have such a connection to people without so much as meeting them face to face or speaking with them. This is a shocker, and he will be missed. I hope that Heaven is filled with Leica's.
