Aside from a possible money factor and already having TWO digital cameras..... What Stopped YOU ?
What made that Decisive Moment slip away ...?
in the end i just kept thinking that i really didn't need another camera.

Buy it, Joe. I need more people to buy one and discuss the shortcomings so I don't get tempted by the IQ of all the X100 images being posted.
this is my dilema as well...the images that i have seen from this little thing have been remarkable...

Does the restriction to one focal length not dissuade? It does me. Would a micro-4/3 like the Panasonic with the zoom plus the fast 20mm not be more versatile, even if the sensor is smaller?
i think i'd be quite content with the fixed lens...especially knowing that i still have 2 rd1s at home...
i had the panasonic g1 with the 20/1.7...and a few zooms as well along the line...i was not comfortable having 2 separate camera systems competing for my photo budget.

Yesterday's firmware update is a huge improvement.
Just remember this is an auto-focus camera. Manual focus (which is improved with the new firmware) is really only for macro mode, checking/fine tuning focus, and setting the focus point for zone focusing. AF is fast and accurate down to EV 5-6 light. The new firmware also has a new focus frame to assist with parallax compensation in OVF mode.
if i were to get the x100...it would be used in auto everything.

i also played with an m9 today, with the tiny 90 summarit on it. what a nice camera, so compact and a real solid feel. it was much easier to put that one back on the shelf...knowing i would likely never be in a position to afford one.

I'm highly confident in saying that almost none of us here actualy/really needs another camera. For most of us, need is not the issue. It would be unduly harsh IMO,to make that the criteria that you would hold yourself to. If you can afford it, live a little. It won't provide you ultimate happiness, but it will bring a little pleasure, and that's what hobbies are about, no?

The best camera is one that still works!
You like the camera and you like all the images you are seeing from it ... and the price is not over the top considering what it's capable of.
I don't really understand why you're hesitating ... or are you just delaying the 'kill' for the hell of it?

So your trying to tell me that buying and selling gear is not like breathing.
Why didn't you post this back in 2004.

Hah, hah. Actually, buying and selling (anything) can be a hobby onto itself.

have you been talking to my doctor?
for the first time in a long time...i am content with my kit...bodies and lenses, even bags...adding another camera to the mix would mess that up for me...best to wait i think.

Improving daily--I think.

Pictures Monday evening?
So far I've avoided the X100 hype--mainly because I don't want (or need) another fixed lens camera. It appears to be a lovely piece of gear and if/when Fuji come out with an interchangeable lens version I probably won't be able to resist. Right now everything about the X100 appeals to me "except" for the fixed lens. Also helps that I really can't afford one at the moment unless I sell some other gear; something I'm not psyched up for at the moment...

or are you just delaying the 'kill' for the hell of it?![]()
The first photo I want to see is him coming through the door on all fours with the camera in his mouth, by the strap would suffice...
