Your point about a fast 35 is well made - are there any 23/24 F2 lenses in M mount?

I believe Leica makes a f/1.4 24mm lens. However, that's gotta be crazy money.

I guess I just meant that using the Epson along with the X100 opens up possibilities. It's why I own the X100 along with a M9... the X100 has that super quiet shutter, fast lens, and great high ISO. Works better for handheld low light (for me) than the M9.

Then, don't buy it.

You are correct. You don't need it. You have two of the best digital implementation of a manual camera ever. You have all the lenses you need. Your photography has, IMO, improved significantly since you've been using the RD1s. There is something very special about RD1 images whether B&W or colour. The X100 will not make any difference to you, so don't buy it. There is no bias here - I have an X100 and it is very capable and I used to have an RD1. If I could find another RD1 with a good history I'd swap my X100 in a heartbeat (this is not a WTB advert, but if you're out there🙂)

thanks for the kind words gid...i too think the rd1 has been instrumental in helping to improve my photography...one of the reasons that i would be very hesitant to change...but combining the x100 with an rd1 might be a good thing too.

That's the key here for me ... I think the X100 with an RD-1 along for the ride is a better, more versatile combo than two RD-1's!

I have been shooting along the lines of 1,000 images a week with the X100, I simply love it. Lots of candids, environmental portraits of famous authors, White House types, a total blast! I love photographing them with this camera and they love being photographed with me using it.

My wife and I have become great friends with this wonderful columnist, we went out to dinner last night with her and her boyfriend, I saw great natural light along a store front being renovated and just loved the gold paper in the window.

It was shot set at jpeg with my "Kodachrome" setting, straight out of camera at F/2. I have been saying this all along and I will say it again, the X100 IS a SERIOUS game changer and formidable challenger to the M9 considering just using a 35/2. I stopped using raw about 3,000 images ago...

Well, I don't see any reason to stress it. You still have one RD1 and now you have a different kind of camera that will add to what you have while still feeling rangefinder like. A win win IMO.
