Chinese Hood
Chinese Hood
The Chinese hood, bought on Ebay, cost $38.00 including shipping. Arrived very quickly, much to my surprise. The hood looks just like the A36 hood for the 50mm Elmar, only slightly shorter. Very well made including the side screw. Should be able to tell how it works on Thursday.

Share a pic of the Chinese hood? Have you used it? Vignettes?

There's was another cheap hood from China at some point on Ebay, looked like the SOOHN but with a screw-in base instead of clamp-on.
It was flared, I don't recall if it actually interfered with the rangefinder optics.
Can't find them now....of course

I've ordered a 34mm screw-in filter with a proper conical shape that might work. Made in china, found on Ebay.

Here is what I did one afternoon. The flat paint took the most time. Haze filter plus end of a pill bottle:

This for a 35mm but you could make one for a 28mm.

After testing the alloy hood I bought from China I found it does indeed create a major vignette. It's very well made in A36 mount and might work properly on a 35mm lens, but not on a 28. The hood is simply too deep, almost identical to the Leica hood for the 5cm Elmar. They are good craftsmen, and it would be wonderful if they made the proper Hektor hood. Anyway, I'm sending it back for a refund. Wish me luck on that. Meanwhile, I've ordered a very cheap plastic hood that looks more like the Leica original.

OK, now the hard part. Can anyone owning the very rare SOOHN hood for the Hektor 28mm lens post the exact dimensions so a proper copy can be fabricated? I've ordered a plastic screw-in hood but I realize that I will not be able to use my A36 filters with it. So the mother of invention. Thanks.

The 34mm screw-in hood arrived today. Vert nice and screws in all the way. But of course you can's use A36 filters with this so I'm going to fabricate one from an A36 mount.
