I can say that the Fuji X-Pro1 is the first camera that has made me feel that I don't need a M9 to be happy.
This feeling came across me the other day, as I packed my V3 35mm Cron for shipment, with the Fujinon 35 f1.4 XR lens sitting across on the XP1.... Quite interesting.
I say this, after pursuing something similar myself, having not owned an M9 (i've used on numerous occasions) but rather an M8. Now it's just the M2 and the XP1. I traded a NEX-7 with the Zeiss for the XP1 and 35mm in a straight exchange at the camera shop and haven't looked back.

I think your plan makes sense.
D800: state-of-the-art IQ and AF, live view, but ... heavy, loud and obvious, not practical to carry everyday
X-Pro 1: excellent IQ, RF-like handling, optical finder with similar benefits to an analog rf, light, quiet and less obvious, easy to carry everywhere all the time, but... average AF and manual focus is less efficient than M9, may not be as robust as M9 when you are on safari and a thousand miles from the nearest camera store or post office.
The D800 and XP1 cameras compliment each other.

With all of the people jumping on the D800 bandwagon, you should wait six months.
In the meantime pick up the Fuji and check it out for the six months.
This will give some time for the new nikon to shake out on the market place, availability will be up and perhaps deals will be available.
Personally not keen on jumping on the first round of new cameras hitting the market.
Good luck with your decision.
