An attempt to raise money via a calendar

I'd rather see original photographs taken with rangefinder cameras.<<

I think a nice thing about RFF is that it so surpasses the "pry-my-Leica-from-my-cold-dead-fingers crowd." An RFF calendar would be very inclusive of many different brands. I can see the first-year calendar being a "systems" series showing small collections of different makes. For example, a nice Kiev page showing a Kiev and several lenses. Same for Contax, Canon, Barnack and M-Leica, Fed Zorki. Depending on the size and layout, one could contemplate an inset photo showing an image taken with the gear pictured. Or one main photo and some inset photos in a strip along the bottom or side showing either other examples of the camera, or examples of photos taken with the camera (or both -- a small verticle strip of variations and models on the left side and a small line of sample photographs taken with the camera along the bottom, along with paragraph of text). It would be a bit busy but would also be fairly inclusive.

While I wouldn't want to see a membership fee - perhaps we could have a "donor honor roll"?

Set up a place on the home page where a listing can be made of "donors" who support the website. Kind of like you see in the programs distributed by symphony orchestras etc.

My donation is bigger than yours. 🙂

Well you could do it by dollar category - although I didn't suggest that.

Perhaps just a donors list with a "minimum" to get on it?

I might have some Nikon's somewhere. I might be able to dig something out if you decide on a calendar as well as the upgraded membership. 350Kbyte file size. I like that a lot.

Yep🙂 definitely pretty fun

I went to a video class in New York city and as part of the class we had to split up into teams of 2 and go out and interview several people. It was fun and we got some pretty good responses. It might work to do a man on the street type photo project. Sounds great to me. :bang:

Why not have a contest? Twelve catagories, one for each month. It could be based on how well the photos reprisent each month. It could be a yearly event. The prize is that you get a free copy of the calender.

Hi Jorge,
I'm a relatively new member, and RFF has enriched my photograhic life. A former working Photojournalist, I am recovering some of my best older work, and creating new images

A DAY calendar is a fine idea... with a mix of smaller pix AND full page ones. I'd be glad to participate.

I'd be willing to contribute use of an image, but I'm not sure this is a great idea.

Bear in mind that the selling season for calendars is very short, from about mid-October to mid-January. After that, any overstocks are obsolete. I suppose this isn't a problem if you're printing them on an on-demand basis, but otherwise unsold inventory can kill you.

I design and print a calendar every year and for a while I tried to sell them, but eventually I had to stop because of this problem. Now I just use the calendar as a self-promotion and print only enough for clients and friends.

Incidentally, the calendars I do (see attached thumbnails) are one-sheeters with six months on a side. A multi-sheet calendar with a different photo for every month is more appealing and would sell better -- but costs much more to produce, so you take even more of a bath on your unsold inventory.
