Any interest in a new Leica M film camera?

I would want to see a manual body with meter, slightly larger finder, faster flash sync and faster shutter speeds. I doubt we will see it though.
Feature wise there really is some improvements in the Zeiss Ikon compared to MP/M7.
Would be great if they could make the camera even more customizeable through A la carte too. Add more choices like no meter or meter, framelines, AV or no AV and so on.

I've always thought that Leica's are too heavy. I'd like to see one made from kevlar or abs. It would also be great to have a see-through one so you could see what was going on inside 😉

What I have to say is: what a REVOLTING idea.

I dunno, Magus, sounds a bit like posturing to me. 🙄 😀

I'm not suggesting that Leica come and take your M7 from you, for godssake, just that they explore updating the camera if they want it to remain a viable professional tool. If they think that film is part of their future, that is.

Leica for too long has relied on their loyal base of chrome polishers and test chart gazers to keep the company afloat, such as it is. It would be nice if they put some innovation into their film camera line. You do remember innovation, right? It's what earned them their reputation to begin with. 😱 😀

Would it be possible to redesign the viewfinder concept?

I'm thinking of not having framelines as we've always had but having a tinted mask a little like we have in Photoshop when we crop images. We could see everything in the viewfinder area, but the image for the lens we're using would be bright and the surroundings would be darker but still visible.

I like that idea and wondered myself if it could be done.

And while we are at it, why not redesign the rangefinder so it not only compensates for parallax in the X and Y axis, but also shrinks and grows depending on if you are focused closeup or at infinity. I believe the Contax G series did this.

Hasn't Leica said that they will continue to produce the M film line, but without further development? In other words, no new film M's?

Honestly I can not imagine profesional photographer shooting 35mm film these days (well if he is not a nuthead) 😀 wedding can be shot on medium format if film is desired (contax 645, mamiya 645, mamiya 7ii) or just shoot digital, why would someone bother with 35mm?

From what I heard, some photographers shoot on weddings both digital and film. In my understanding of it they charge more for film because it is more artistic (NB that's what they say).

As to why should anyone shoot 35mm when there is medium format, the answer is this: available light.

An M7.2 with good flash capabilities could manage both outdoor flash photography and indoor available light.

I'll assume you're playing devil's advocate here, but I'll answer anyway.

Skintones. Lattitude. Tonality. Depth.

That's all I can think of...😎

Nah, I don`t agree, both contax and mamiya have great flash system, not to mention f/2.8 lenses, not to mention hasselblad even 🙂 only reason`s to use 35mm over medium format are size of body and lenses, 36 frames per roll, everything else is just posing 😀 nothing can beat 6x6 HP5 negative enlarged and proffesionals know it 😀
