Yes, it is coupled. I tried it in Tokyo in March and shot some frames with it at PIE (Photo Imaging Expo) and I was impressed with its performance wide open. I am waiting for mine (and so are all my M8 toting friends here in Vancouver!). The difference between the 21 and 18mm might not sound so big in numbers, but in image it is quite dramatic. As for things like fall-off, linearity and over all sharpness, that has to wait until I have it in my hands (and on my cameras). It is no light weight lens, 58mm filter thread and a most impressive front element! It is the Zeiss Distagon formula so I expect a bit more distorsion than from the 21/4.5 Biogon (this lens will most likely be the bench mark for that for a long time).
