i'm curious if there are folks out there shooting fuji without the hoods...and, if so, how is that working out for ya?

i never shot with a hood on any of my cameras including the x100/s and never had issues.

seems like most people uses one for protection but really for me, the only time I might use it is if I'm facing the sun or potential glaring in the frame

+1

I use both filter and hood as well. No lens cap.. Cheap insurance is the way I c it. Seen to many old lenses worn before their time because no filter.

Never really bothered to use w/o.

i have always used both uv filter and hood on all my lenses...but i have been wanting to try shooting w/o the hoods recently...maybe because i've been doing it with the 27...i know the hoods really help in winter when shooting while it' snowing...

Forgot to mention... I'm clumsy. Day one put a big finger print on my lens, just before I found the 39mm filter. Day three put another big finger print on the filter..:bang::bang: Day six, bought a lens hood, no more @@m oily finger prints :D

Here u go. It is a fotodiox vented hood. I always liked the look of vented hood. There are rubber ones out there as well that u can fold back for more compactness.

sure changes the look...makes the lens bigger...i bought a smaller screw in hood that makes the lens look silly.
maybe i'll take a quick pic...

Yeah it does... But it stopped me from putting anymore finger prints on the filter. I actually never cared that it was a pancake lens. I wanted a 40fov period. I decided that if I don't use a hood, I need to use the lens cap.

i like that it's a pancake...love the smaller size...

Even though it is bigger I kind of like my hood better. I wish Fuji had come out with the inverted cone style that Nikon pioneered for the 45 pancake in the 90s I think it was.

The Minolta 40f2 was not a pancake, but it was pretty small on my CL. The cv 40f1.4 on the other hand was pretty big in comparison.

oh yeah, mine looks dumb! for sure...
but i don't use it...so far no flare.

You betcha Mate!

I remeber seeing JJC has a knock off of the original in the teen$.

Never mind... can't find it now .

On the X100, I use the Pentax 49mm dome hood most of the time. It's small and doesn't get hooked coming out of the bag.

Also just got a 49mm screw-on vented hood for $6 or something. Let's me use a polarizer in sunlight and rotates with that filter (the Fuji style hood does not do this). I was afraid the dome hood + polarizer would vignette, so I got this vented hood.
