Anyone still shoot with their SLR's?

I could see getting GAS for the elegant F2 (preferably the AS version), but common sense tells me I would probably use the more rudimentary and rustic FM2n a lot more because of its more rangefinder-like size and weight.

Unlike most of you younger folk, I still think of the 35mm SLR as the new boy on the block, but a very welcome newcomer which greatly simplifies certain tasks which can be a real hassle on the rangefinder.

You'll probably spend less for a really nice F3 than you would for an F2 AS.

It was a post on nikonians.org which sparked my interest in the Yashica Electro 35 GSN, which then - oh happy day - brought me here. I still use my Nikon FE more often than any other camera; I cherish it. If i had to graph it out, I'd say 40% FE and 20% RF. The rest is a miscellany: the Canon G3, the TLR's, a Great Wall, and a slew of ancient Agfas.
Variety is the spice of life, toch? 🙂

I have brought my Minolta SRTs back to life and recently picked up a 58mm 1.2 lens for them. Very, very nice giant piece of glass!!!😀

Mike you are right about the price of the Minolta stuff, so so low. Check out KEH too, their prices for Minolta glass generally is not much more than that on ebay. I picked up the 58 from a dealer for less than $100!!! One recently sold for over $200 on ebay.😉

Looks like there's quite a few manual Minolta users here. $100- for a 58/1.2 is an _excellent_ deal. KEH has a bargain condition one for $179- and wants $310- for one in excellent condition.

I still like the VF on the X-570 and XD-11 the best. Some have commented that Minolta glass is most Leica-like (I can't tell the diff) and it certainly doesn't hurt that Minolta was an OEM for Leica at various times.

Looks like I'm the only Nikon AF SLR shooter here... Oddly enough, I used to have a Minolta X370s. It was my learning camera... But I sold it once I got into rangefinders.

When do I use it? For macros, extreme close-ups only. And with the nice wide-angle zooms I have (Nikon AF 24-85 and Tokina 19-35).

And it's been a long time since I took it out last time...

Kin, give the MD 50/1.4 with 55mm filter thread a try. It was designed and produced during Minolta's Leitz years.

I have that, and I will 🙂. I also have the 49mm thread version also and the 58/1.4. I don't have quite as many 50's as you do, but it's getting close 😱

I also have the 35-70/4 in the Maxxum mount, which is also OEM'd for Leica.

I'm using an MF SLR, most of you know about the famous Pentacon SIX 😀 *winks*

besides this camera, I'm using mainly my Kiev-2A, sometimes a Minolta Hi-Matic F, and now less than before a Zorki-4. And I sent my Fed-3b overseas as a birthday gift to the woman I love! Sometimes some TLR shooting, too 😉

My next trick will be an MC 85/1.7 and/or MC 100/2.5.

I have the 100/2.5... lovely lense. Not sure if it's a mc or md tho. Was there a diff in the formula?

So many Nikonians ... so few Olympians. I'm surprised to be the only one shooting with an OM ...

It just means more reasonable prices for additional lenses for you Gene. I actually thought of buying an FM3a and building a small mf slr kit with used lenses. I scratched my head, then realized that the camera that I wanted was my SRT 101. The great thing about these old mechanical dogs is that they are all well built and work very well. There is no doubt that Nikon gear is excellent, but so is that from Canon, Pentax, Olympus, Minolta, Konica....

Had an OM1 back in the late '70s. Kept forgetting to turn off the meter. Don't like that seperate switch.

Hear, hear, three cheers for all the classic SLR's!

The problem with Olympus collecting is that Zuiko lenses, having acquired some kind of cult status, never fell to reasonable prices. They're only now beginning to.

I shoot with my first and my favorite (yet built like a tank) Zenit B with Helios 44M-2. I know, I know, it's a chunk of aluminum and steel with a clothplane shutter curtain... no internal light meter, but I like it.

I use my old Nikons. I have an F3 and an EL2. Lately I shot with my new/old cheapo EM. I like it a lot. It's small and easy to handle. End of commercial.
