anyone use the leicatime case with grip for leica m?

Hi Joe,

I just bought a ½ case with grip in Rally color and a deluxe strap and stainless steel screw for my M7. I am very pleased with the whole setup. I did not want the cut out circle on the back. Overall I find the case to be small (which I like), high quality, and the grip for my right hand is perfect. Luigi delivered it FAST via FedEx to Florida. I paid around $310 for the setup with shipping and PayPal fees. It took less than a week while the World Cup was happening for me to receive it. I would not hesitate to buy from Luigi again. Hope this was helpful.

greetings darr.
and welcome to rff.

i have a couple of luigi's cases, one for the zi and one for the cl and they realy are very nice. th one for cl makes the camera just a touch better to handle. his quality is exquisite also.

i'm interested in the grip part, which i have not seen in person. you seem to think that it adds to the usability of the camera, which is what i am after.
i like an m grip on the camera but have been thinking the case w/ grip might be better than just a case or just a grip.

Joe, both my Luigi cases are made to accept an M-grip already installed. I always keep my M-grips on my M6 and M3, mainly because I often use a 90mm 'cron and find the leverage useful. Luigi makes them so they wrap nicely around the plastic grip, and they really feel good and solid when using, but can't be used without the M-grip, so not a good idea unless you always leave your M-grip on the camera like I do. The cases have a stepped inner floor to accept the bottom of the M-grip, so are bit taller than usual, almost like you have a Leicavit on the camera.

Don't get me started.. I'm trying to not spend anymore money right now and these cases have been on my "want" list for a while - I need one for the M3 and for the IIIc

i no longer have the m grip that was on the m3. i sold it (cause the black clashed with the chrome and purplsnakeskin cover) but the silver looks good.
now i'm wondering if i should get a silver m grip and case or a case with grip.and now you've entered another possibilty into the equation...

Hmm... with our dollar doing "ok" .. the price of the case with the strap ain't half bad.

Black leather case and strap.. hmmmm

M3 with "buddha ears" of course....

hmmm

Dave

Dave, that's an important point, Luigi will give you a case made for the round lugs located slightly forward on the camera unless you specifically mention the buddha ears that are directly on the side.....

I really have to give Louigi credit for his entrepreneurial vision. I'd have just laughed in their face if someone would've told me people would shell out $300+ for half of an ERC when an entire ERC can be had in decent shape for $50-$100 :bang:

Is this the real thing ? Mine has red lining and you can not see the seams on the inside.

Roland.

You could ask if it is stamped on the bottom Leicatime. My Rally color ½ case is green on the inside and you can see the seam from the grip on the right side.

That price is not just for a new ½ case. The price included a case with grip, deluxe strap, stainless steel screw, PayPal fees and FedEx International (2 Day delivery). I just bought a new M7 and wanted a new case in the color and design of my choice. Yes it is expensive, but I found anything new with Leica was expensive. I went through the same thing with Hasselblads and my Ebony 4x5 gear. I waited for retirement to buy the Leica. 🙂

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but can someone explain to me what is the purpose of the stainless steel screw? Is it simply to ensure the camera stays attached to the case?

Nevermind. I revisited Luigi's website and think I get it now - the screw is to provide an exposed tripod mount since the regular one on the bottom of the camera is covered by the case itself.

Thanks,
Randy

ya.. the same could be said for the founder of Rolex or Cartier or Rolls Royce or Bentley or Prada or Louis Vuitton or . . . . . 😀

Each type of product associated with each one of those brands listed above could be had "cheaper" by buying a different brand of the same type of merchandise. Sure.. why buy a Rolex when a Timex is just as good? Why buy a Rolls Royce when you can drive a Hyundai? etc. etc.

I've seen and felt the Luigi cases and I've also had a brand new Voigtlander ERC in my hands; there is no comparison - the Luigi case is hand sewn and supple - the Voigtlander felt like "pleather".

Once you hold one of these you'll understand why leicaphiles (and others) crave them 😀

Call me crazy, but I just ordered a built-in grip case for my R3a .... Luigi kindly agreed to make one.
I guess now that I cannt buy lenses anymore, my GAS goes somewhere else 😱

Cheers,

Roland.

Roland, YOU SO CRAZY !!! 😀 😀 😀

Roland, I have a question for you since you have a Luigi case with the built-in grip on your M3. Looking at your picture and the ones on Luigi's website, it looks like the case covers the rewind release lever on the front of the camera (the exception appearing to be the one in Rally leather on Lugi's website). So, here's my question: does this make it difficult to access this release lever when you want to rewind a roll of film? Or is there enough give in the case to sneak your finger underneath to access this lever? Basically, all I want to know is whether this is a problem or not.

Thanks,
Randy

Yes, Randy, rewind level and self-timer can not be accessed without taking the case off.
But this case has a special history: I bought it used from someone on pnet without
having Luigi fit it to that camera.

Hey we could go for a beer sometime (with Luigi cases?), since you are close ...

Cheers,

Roland.

I was just thinking... hmmm.... does it really matter if you can't access the "rewind" lever? I mean, ya.. the self timer (if you've got one) may be a p.i.t.a. but the reason for accessing the rewind lever is to rewind the film and therefore remove it from the camera; which would entail you removing the camera from the case anyway.

Am I making sense there or am I missing something? (other than my mind that is..)

Dave

Okay, Dave, I think you got me there! Guess I committed the online equivalent of opening my mouth without engaging my brain. (smile)

Probably the real reason I keep asking questions is because although I want one of these fancy, great sounding Luigi cases there's a part of me that is looking for reasons to NOT spend the several hundred dollars it will cost...
