Gear Whore #1
So we finally have the March Meet-Up nailed down to be Saturday March 31st.
Phil will be in town for a week and as we always make it easy to accommodate our out of town friends the April Meet-Up will be Sunday April 15th at Puck Fair.

I will be there!
If I get it back, perhaps I'll bring this:

I was going to enter it in the beauty contest but my friend (pictured) needed to use it.

Phil,
We love science projects. Cristian builds a lot of crazy stuff and is very technical. One of his rangefinders is a Linhof.
John just got a pinhole camera.

I won't be able to make the meet-up tomorrow, or the April 15th. But, hopefully I will see you in May.

Anybody want an M9? I'm SERIOUSLY considering selling mine. I'll have it with me at the April meet up and you can all either talk me out of it or talk me into it.
I'm fed up with the hunt for a media job.

I'll swap it for my R-D1. It is a gear swap after all...

I have a few bricks of tri-x I can trade for the m9...

I can't eat an RD1. They're great but if i get rid of the M9 then it's back to film for me full time. I'm just angry. Maybe this will pass.

Hm, in that case, not sure how edible tri-x is...
Cal should grab your M9!

Sounds like you could do with a drink, more than that you need to eat. Doesn't anyone do M9 to film conversions?

Yes but $5000 goes a long way towards staples: food, liquor, women. (I just had to
I have the M9 to film conversion already:
Sell M9 and use the M4 and M4-P I already own. Just not pursue a career in any type of journalism.
This brutal slap in the face after using up almost all my GI Bill then being stonewalled with the prospect of chronic unemployment just has me miffed about wasting the time and money on a degree. I still have a few options though but not in the media really.

Phil,
I'm glad I got a good stable day job. BTW I have an art degree, a masters in TV Broadcast Journalism and Screenwriting, and a MFA in Creative Writing. Never used any of my college education to make any money. Also struggled all my life in the arts, and yet I remain just a guy with a ponytail.
Although I somehow became the Asian stereotype, with the high tech job working in physics labs, this is not who I am. Only got the job because I'm a rather experienced performance artist, and I wrote a good cover letter, also learned to bypass personel to get the interview/audition.
Anyways if you are an artist expect to struggle your whole life. One of the best times of my life was going to art school, but I was broke, had no money, and knew what it was like to struggle.
Anyways this moment of artistic despair happens to everyone; it will pass, but the passion and the struggle will continue.
BTW I still shoot only film, but was thinking of either getting a M9 or even a M10, but this would require selling much of my gear to pay for it. I would still shoot B&W film and digital I would consider a new and different medium. I'll update my signature, perhaps we could swing a deal that could be trade and cash.

Craptastic. I left Philly in a rush and was behind by a few hours. Anyway, I forgot to grab that last pack of Kodak 125PX in 120 rolls. Either we can postpone the fight or I can just mail the film to the winner. Please feel free to flog me as my lack of attention to detail has caused one of y'all to go without these last few rolls of what I considered the best film made.
Also, I'll have on hand my newly refurbished 70th Anniversary M4-P. Red dot removed, re-skinned with Aki Asahi leather, VF was overhauled and the 135mm framelines removed. M2 style winder lever added.
The old shutter chassis was worn out and every frame at most speeds was either capping or just barely jamming and sticking. Youxin replaced the shutter chassis with one from an MD-a and now I have a buttery smooth, essentially new, custom M4-P arriving tomorrow. The MD-a doesn't have a hot-shoe so I lost that capability. Not to worry though, I never use on-camera flash with a film M so it's no bother.
I'll be bringing the M9 and all its batteries. If anyone wants to take it home, I can bring the charger. Just ruminating over this possibility.
