I'm in "John Mode." Tonight I will do some testing with the 50 Lux-R.

Interesting to note that the old retro glass that I love for film did not fair well on the IQ. The more modern glass is just that. I still love the old retro single coated glass for film though, especially on Leicas.

It does seem that this little camera is kinda crazy, especially for a guy like me who has some cherry picked Leica glass. I started carrying it every day and took it to work today. Was later than normal because I stopped to take a few shots.

I can see the Thumbs Up wearing holes in my clothes. Interesting how the crop factor changes things. Now the 28 Cron that I kinda outgrew is getting recycled in a great way on the CL. BTW I have been using the Pentax-L 43/1.9 as my inbetween 35 and 50 lens on my Monochrom. I use the entire frame of the VF'er with the 50 frames. Because I wear glasses the framing is good.

Glad to see that you understand the appeal of APSC now. I like FF and APSC, but anything smaller does not work well enough for me. I think you need one AF lens for that CL though... just for when you photograph the Icon and want to keep it simple and small.

Can't wait for the "Free" 35 Lux-TL. This lens is for the "Icon."

Last week was 475K followers. Some possible TV gigs: one involving a show (not her own but as a steady guest); another is huge as a possible guest.

Anyways now the Linhof's and the SL seem mighty bog and heavy. Picked up the SL this morning and it seems to have gained weight.

The CL with 28 Cron seems like I'm almost naked it weighs so little.

Cool...glad she is doing well. It's good to have options in the digital world... now you have a big FF, a medium size FF B&W camera, and a smaller APSC. You'll find that as time goes by, each will have their niche.

I still love "Monsters." LOL.

While I was waiting for Fed Ex I repaired a Unicolor Uniroller that I bought off EBAY for $29.99 plus $15.00 shipping. It was sold "as is" but evidently the motor worked.

From my forensics I discovered that some of these Unirollers have the internal reversing switch either disabled or externalized into a manual switch for reversing. Upon inspection I discovered the reversing cam jammed up the drive due to binding. Simple fix is remove the switch.

So I have this JOBO 3013 that is a massive tank, but with this roller I only need 330ml of developer to process five 4x5 sheets. The motorized Uniroller pretty much automates my development, and the size of the tank, about 7-8 liters, is kinda huge. So now I have a working Uniroller that normally sells for $100.00 to $120.00.

This tank with Uniroller is a big Monster.

"Maggie" I think could quit her day-job later this year. She will likely then be able to replace her salary, but the money is not a steady check.

Meanwhile I'm hovering. Not really realistic I can sell my work as art to pay my bills, but photography and printing is my lifestyle that makes me happy and feel complete.

Interesting to note that my digital cameras I bought to use till they die. My Monochrom is over five years old, got a new sensor, and could/might still be an important camera to me even a decade from now. I hope the same is true for the SL and CL, but if not: oh-well.

Only about one third of Americans have enough money to retire. It is still early, but because I have two pensions I can pretty much maintain my lifestyle in another expensive city that has a 25-30% cost of living lower than NYC. This is not so hard to do. Madrid is 30% cheaper than NYC; Barcelona 25%; Seattle 30%; Philly 30% (if I wanted to somewhat stay local); Vancouver is in the ballpark.

The problems for Maggie is all she has is Social Security and her savings and she wants to not necessarily take a "haircut" in lifestyle. For Maggie to sustain her lifestyle she will have to work because she needs the income.

In my case I don't mind even going rural to live cheaply. I have much respect for a less pollution, being able to fish, and being able to bike with less risk of getting "pan-caked" by a car. I don't mind being antisocial, and I enjoy artistic solitude. I wouldn't mind owning a car or truck. Just keep me out of the suburbs.

Wow. The 50 Lux-R with the stacked M and R adapters is sized about the same as my old version II 75 Lux-M. My 75 Lux had this dreamy look wide open and the lens short comings added to the wide open rendering. Stopped down though this lens had that Mandler non ASPH smoothness combined with resolution. The 50 Lux "E60" is a more perfect lens at F1.4, and because it is one of the last Mandler designs compounded by the perfection of riding the sweet-spot is a killer lens on the CL. Really brutal.

On the CL the feel is very solid, and the balance not bad. The rig though is heavy, but smaller than a 75 Lux on a M. The added focal length adds a lot of fine detail and microcontrast. Seems like the CL and this 50 "E60" is a magic pair. Very easy to focus exploiting the 6X magnification. Dispite the added weight and bulk, this is my favorite lens for the CL. Looks evil too.

Battery power has to be mindfully conserved. Likely a second battery required for a day of shooting. I'm finding the simple elegant design to really be spot on for the name "Digital Barnack."

The rig looks evil. Realize the 50 Lux has a "E60" filter size and on a Leica R body would be a somewhat "stubby" lens. The stack of M and R adapters then makes it strongly resemble the size of a 75 Lux-M.

The sweet spot from one of Mandler's last designs, non ASPH, is perfection. This is crazy good. I think because the "E60" is a rare and expensive lens that offers an edge of novelty.

I learned from Maggie if you want to stand out, then don't do what others are doing. This is one reason why she became big.

The Noct-Nikkor is also crazy. Its rendering differs from a Noctilux in that it does not have light fall off in the corners, but the focus and resolution rolls off. Using the sweet spot eliminates this roll off in resolution. 87mm at F1.2 is insane and it is easy to nail the focus. The telescope effect of magnification via longer focal length is compounded by 3X and 6X magnification. The Noct-Nikkor has a hand ground ASPH lens in its construction.

So the crop factor is an asset and source of inspiration. This holiday weekend I'll be doing some night shooting.

My note was more for the other form members. Although, the Salmagundi Club does have a non-resident artist member category. I got one photo accepted into the show of a young musician, that I took a photo of in 2003, in Plaza Doreggo, San Telmo, Buenos Aires.

Any one have an interest is shooting Nikkor (Nikon) pre-AI prime lenses on a Sony. I don't think that I am going that route, so I am putting all my Nikkor pre-AI up for sale next week. 105mm, 50mm f/1.4, 55mm 3.5, 50mm f/2.0, and 200mm f/4.0. If anyone is interested, I can bring these to the meet up. I also have a bunch of Sony NEX adapters, LM-NEX, 2 - AI-NEX, CY-NEX, LR-NEX. The AI-NEX will work with the Pre-AI Lenses (I think).
