Cal,
If your looking for hills headed north from the GWB, go a little south then onto River road. You can find if on a map. You rejoin 9W at Alpine.
You will get your hills. Actually further up 9W you do get some hills...

Joe,
Thanks for the insights. "Mike the Wack-Job" loves river road. He speaks of one long climb that seems never ending. On a descent he was on the wheel of one of his other fixed gear buddies who is a rather strong rider. Pretty much clipped in he did a 49 MPH.
Funny thing it was a new bike and his body position was not really dialed in. The bike started to resonate and become unstable. I suspect that the seat was just a bit too far forward.
I already have a new chain, but I need new chain rings for my Ti Basso, so I'll have a road bike.
9-10 miles north of the GWB the long inclines were not much of a challenge, although 9W is a wonderful road to go on a cruise.
Saw a dead deer that was road killed.

Looks like the Sunday the 28th is booked for me. I'll be visiting my guitar nerd friends out on Long Island.
Easter weekend kinda kills the likelihood of an April Meet-Up.
Oh-well.
I took notice of someone who was my height who evidently is undergoing major shrinkage. This man has a very physical job, so it is not due to loss of muscle. I suspect drinking because alcohol messes up calcium uptake. Now I'm about 2-3 inches taller.
I'm still 5' 9" barefoot. Just like in High School. BTW 30% of Asians don't have the M-zine to break down alcohol, I'm one of them, and I don't drink alcohol. Diet and exercise so far has prevented any loss in height. A nurse told me that you are still growing till age 40 and that after 40 the shrinkage begins. Alcohol especially binge drinking can accelerate the shrinkage. Weight training can forestall the shrinkage.

Goggle Maps suggests from my apartment to Bear Mountain State Park is about 45 miles. I understand how Route 202 and Route 9 gets hilly towards the end, but the homeward leg of 45 miles would have some gravity assist.
River road is its own separate challenge as far as climbing. Along the way I saw this switchback that likely connected to River Road below. There was a sign that warned bicyclists to dismount and walk and that summons would be issued to violators.

So in talking with Joe and another friend Steve the inclines start turning into hills around Aspen and in Rockland the hills become serious. I only made it to Ten-A-Fly I figure kinda below Aspen.
So making it to Bear Mountain and back, about 43 miles each way would be a rather tough guy workout, especially on a single speed. So first would be a geared bike, and perhaps on a single speed might never happen.
Either seems a bit crazy and "Crazy is good," I say.
So speaking of tough guy, did anyone watch the game Saturday, Toronto against the Bruins? Imagine a big guy from Toronto skating at 35-45 MPH trying to snap his stick across an opponents face against the boards. Five minute penalty/power play for trying to kill an opponent.
Pretty much the ref's lost control of the game and pretty much things went too far. Pretty much went into "Gladiator Mode."
So this reminds me of at work. It is reported that my friend Greg got fired because he was involved in a fist fight at work with his boss. Kinda similar to the hockey game in that Human Resources lost control and things went too far.
Policy is when ever violence happens both parties get fired regardless even if in self defense.
So I saw Greg a few weeks ago. Evidently he got another job at another hospital nearby.
So somehow I have become a hockey fan. One of my co-workers is a Canadian from Toronto (a girl), and one day she tells me that, "If I don't get out of work by five, I'm going to punch XXXX (her boss) in the face." Pretty much she is ready to go into "Hockey Mode" and I tell her don't do it. LOL.
Kinda funny when I see the TV commercials advertising how great the hospitals where we work are. Not at all like the TV shows where everyone are friends and having sex with each other. If these are the best, I can't imagine the worst. LOL.
Next week "Maggie" flys to L.A. for basically an audition for some show episode.

Christian,
At Los Alamos, when Ronald Ray-Gun was President, I saw this girl with a tight shirt I worked with in a utility closet by the bathrooms. I signaled for her to flash me her top by lifting my shirt a little. Carol exposed herself to me, and what made it hot was that some guys were walking by totally unaware of the "show and tell" going on that I only could see.
Seems like the oppression at work extends into sexuality.
After hours though running home to Williamsburg with Eva who had a swimsuit body was always appealing. She flaunted her body as did I. Just kept it friendly, but one time this group of High School kids kinda went nutz over her: bouncy-bouncy if you know what I mean.
This hipster girl gave Eva a dirty look on the Williamsburg bridge that said, "You suck," that was directed towards Eva. Artists are exhibitionists by definition, and I saw this girl fix her glasses so she could look me up and down better. I was a sweaty mess and exposing my chest; my T-shirt I held in my hand.
Pretty much I was just a big sausage to this hipster girl. LOL.

Now the weather is nice I'm riding the green bike again. I get bike Instagrammers asking to take pictures of my bike, not my body. I may not be sweaty enough...

Christian,
Heading north on 9W in Jersey I was the only "freak" riding a fat tire bike among all the road bikes.
I got a lot of stares like as if I was lost. LOL.
The road bike scene was pretty hard core. Mucho high end road bikes.

Just got summoned to shoot at some event near Bryant Park tonight.
I have no clue what this is about. All I know is that "Maggie" had to get her agent to get permission for me to attend.
"They are glad to have me," I am told.
I might have to get dressed...

Cal,
We last meet-up, we were all talking about Leitz using work transfers to get his Jewish colleagues out Nazi Germany. Many under guise of being salesmen transferring to NY offices. All given a Leica to use as a bargaining tool if they met any opposition. Heres a little Vimeo short on the subject:
https://vimeo.com/4613988
Theres also a wiki article on the 'Freedom Train', which also mentions that Leitz' daughter was arrested by Gestapo for helping Jewsish women to cross over into Switzerland

Last night's gig was rght across from the Carousel in Bryant Park. Basically it was a video taping in front of a live audience where "Maggie" was being interviewed. This was for a tech company that is a big household name.
There were 4 digital video cameras that recorded to SD cards all rigged with fast primes. These were not DSLR's, but the glass were all 50's except the center camera rigged with a 24. I sat right next to the camera stage left rigged on a tripod so my FOV was pretty close to their camera. I matched their 50mm.
So it was a fun gig. Maggie worked with this tech company before, and the pay is pretty big. Pretty much only need a handful of these gigs a year to pay the bills living in Madhattan.
The crew was pretty amazing. All young people except the director. Interesting to note that this huge tech company uses We Work as their office space.

OT: The Fralin PU's I ordered have been shipped. Pretty much finishing up optimizing the last guitar so I can concentrate on other things, now that the brown Super amp is done.

Cal, depending on the model, those cameras probably had a super 16 sized sensor, meaning the field of view was more like a 75mm. There are some full frame video cameras out there, but most are designed for typical cine lenses.

Christian,
I don't know about that, but the filter size of the glass was about 82mm on these fast primes. The focal lengths were clearly marked, and the size of the lenses were like the size of my 50 Lux SL, meaning huge.
This production crew was first rate. I would think no corner cutting here. This is a big tech company that is a household name. It was really a good thing meeting the crew as far as networking goes. Pretty much everything is a big deal.
The "live shoot" was not a live broadcast, but was taped in front of a live audience. The video will be released in the beginning of May I am told.
